"How do I look?"
Turning away from the mirror, Fabian saw his fiancé spinning around in front of him in a tight, very revealing red dress and high heels.
She was also wearing big gold earrings, a necklace that he had given her as a birthday gift, and her engagement ring that had a big rose-colored diamond in the middle of it. Her hair was straightened and she had a lot of makeup that made her look stunning.
Matching her, he was wearing a red tie with his black suit that he had about thirty identical in the closet. He wasn't one to try colorful suits, let alone ones that had some patterns in them such as flowers or stripes.
Tonight was a gala in New York where were everyone who was anyone in the business world. This wasn't the first time he had gone to these kinds of galas but tonight was different because it would be his first time giving a speech after becoming the CEO.
What was even better - or worse? - was the fact that both of his parents would be in the crowd watching his every move and hearing every word he said, looking for any mistake he would make.
This would be his first time to prove that he wasn't only the son of Benjamin Murphy but also his own person who had only learned from him but who would also do just as good a job as his father did. Maybe even better.
Everyone had known and respected his father for his work and they were absolutely shocked after hearing that he had retired last year. Even bigger surprise was that he had given the job to his eldest son which was always expected but definitely not this soon.
Even Fabian had assumed that he would still have at least five or six years before taking over the job and the hotels but obviously, he hadn't denied the offer. Now he would just have to make sure not to disappoint him after he had given him the job that he had always treasured more than anything else, even his children.
No pressure, his mind joked sarcastically and he shook his head to get rid of those thoughts that had given him a lot of headache and stress.
"Beautiful," he smiled and kissed her on the cheek, not telling her that for some reason, he immediately compared her to Charlotte Idler. What would Nora say if he asked her to dye her hair bright pink and to wear oversized jean jumpsuits instead of her never-ending list of fancy dresses?
The thought came out of nowhere and froze him on the spot because it made no sense whatsoever. Why on earth was he suddenly thinking about that woman instead of his own fiancé?
"Thanks, babe! You look very handsome too, everyone is gonna look at us and take photos!" Nora smiled as if it was everything she had ever wanted. Yeah, it couldn't be a bad thing to be engaged to a CEO of a successful hotel chain if you wanted your fashion business to get more recognition.
Fabian only faked a smile.

She wasn't wrong, everyone's eyes were on them the minute they arrived at the gala and it was almost a challenge to get away from the reporters. There were a lot of round tables inside in front of the stage and he immediately recognized people sitting there, some of whom they had done a lot of business with.
While walking to their seats where their parents were already sitting, he shook everyone's hands and told them how nice it was to meet them again even though it couldn't be further from the truth.
Going to these kinds of events was his own personal hell and he was already counting down the minutes of when it was time to go home and rest from all this socializing.
Fabian had no idea what to talk about other than his job which should be the safe option in here. Unfortunately, people loved to make small talk and ask for details about his life, especially about his upcoming marriage.
