Why was he still here? He should have left a long time ago, much earlier before Aurora even mentioned Cinderella, and somehow he was still sitting there, on their couch as if he lived in there.
If you asked him where he wanted to spend his Friday evenings five months ago, Charlie's apartment would have been at the bottom of the list. Back then he had no interest whatsoever to get to know her and spend any time with her and yet here he was, holding her daughter and watching children's movies with them.
Even worse, he had also realized how much he preferred being here with them rather than at his own home with Nora which he would never admit out loud. Still, that was starting to be true more and more each day.
Although he shouldn't, Fabian couldn't help but compare Charlie to Nora and realized that while his fiancé was very beautiful, her personality was, well, less amazing. It was, to put it frankly, even boring, especially compared to Charlie who had made him laugh and smile more than in a very long time.
Never before had he wanted to just sit down on a couch with Nora and talk for hours, get to know every detail of her but in the past it had never been a problem. Being with her was just something he had had to do due to his parents' request.
It had never been a problem until lately which was a shame because he didn't want to have these thoughts or let them down, especially his father. He didn't even think about what he would say if he knew that Fabian had started to... dislike Nora and thought about what it would be like to be with someone else. Someone different. Maybe with someone with pink hair.
God, there it was again! It was unclear where these thoughts about Charlie had come from lately but they needed to go away because of about a million reasons. Although he didn't love Nora or even liked her very much, he still wanted to respect her and that meant not thinking about other women while still being with her.
Not only that, Fabian could never be with Charlie because of her children. It wasn't that they were a dealbreaker because he hated them or anything like that. The truth was, he just wasn't the right man to date a single Mom and be a father figure to her girls.
While he wasn't running away at the sight of a child anymore, he still didn't think that he was good with them or would be a good role model. And children especially that young deserved better. Charlie deserved better.
Still, and not to sound like a lovefool teenager, Fabian could have sworn that they just had a moment together. It almost sounded like they had flirted... It hadn't been his intention, though, he just couldn't resist mentioning fun.
Thank god he got saved by a call and he rushed to answer it before he did something stupid that he would only regret later such as kissing her. While Nora called to inform him about having more sold-out clothes - designed by herself - Fabian had to force himself to listen and take his thoughts away from the woman sitting next to him.
"You have to leave?" Avoiding his eyes, Charlie took Aurora from his lap which disappointed him for some unknown reason. It's not like he had started to love children suddenly even though that blonde girl was cute as a button even with her temper.
Why did she sound so impatient? Did she want him to leave? "Uhhhh not yet, Nora won't be at home for hours," Fabian mumbled frowning.
Still not looking at him, Charlie nodded while looking quite unhappy and almost even hurt. That didn't make any sense because Fabian had already apologized for accidentally making it sound that he was friends with her because he felt sorry for her.
Hell, she had forgiven him! They had talked it through and he had assumed that it was all forgotten but apparently not. Only women would get angry and give silent treatment for something they had already forgiven for.
