Damon finally stopped driving and pulled in to the side of the road , Clara was feeling rather nervous as they hadn't seen a single car in miles and as got out she realised how high up they were. They were both stood on top of cliffs that overlooked the sea.
It would have been a beautiful area if she wasn't fearing Damon would throw her off.

"We spent years together. I trusted her. I told her so many stuff and all she did was use it to her gain. I froze that day and I froze again today" he said, he didn't really know if she was listening but felt like he should say something.

"I loved her, I obviously don't love her anymore but i hesitated to kill her straight away because of all the good things she did for me, all the good memories. How can you kill someone you once shared a life with?" He continued.

"You can move on now. You don't have to worry about her hurting your family or yourself" Clara had no idea what to say.

She had never really been in love. She never loved her exes.

"Yeah. You're right , my family is safe" he replied.

"You wouldn't be normal if you didn't feel any remorse boss " she said.

"Don't. I'm sorry for snapping earlier. Just use my name " he replied.

"Besides  we should probably talk about your career, she's gone it means you don't have to work with me anymore. You can go lead a normal life" he said changing the topic.

"That can wait you're not okay" she stated.

"No. Just fucking stop. Stop pretending like you care. I'm giving you the opportunity to tell me the career you want and you can go. You don't have to pretend anymore. Tell me what you want and leave "

Clara didn't know exactly what she wanted but she saw Damon was pushing her away to protect himself. She didn't know why because she knew she couldn't hurt him.

She hated him.

She chose to ignore that thought and sat on a large rock. "What are you doing" Damon asked.

"Sitting obviously" Clara replied.

Damon didn't know what to do at first but slowly he sat next to her.

The two sat in silence for quite some time.

"Do you ever wish you had a normal life without all the Mafia stuff" Clara asked.

"Yes. But I have that when I go home. At home I'm not a mafia boss, I'm just me. It's...nice." he told her.

"That does sound nice. My family barely talk to me anymore. It's like they are scared I will kill them" she admitted.

"How come they know" he asked.

"It's complicated" she said.

"You could always stay around here for a bit longer" Damon suggested.

"I remember the days where you threatened me to leave the country and now you want me around. How times change" she said.

"There's a nice cliff right here I can push you off if you'd like" he said making sure his tone wasn't serious.

"I'll just pull you down with me" she replied.

"I knew you liked me on top of you" Damon joked.

"Shut up" Clara said nudging him, her cheeks turning red.

Damon laughed at her response.

"It's funny how you're the one who keeps starting it. Perhaps you like it" she said.

"Perhaps" Damon said smirking when she was lost for words.

A comfortable silence followed with them watching the sea below. Clara didn't realise how her head somehow rested on Damon's chest. And when she did realise she didn't bother to remove it.

"Stephanie was with me through some of the worst times in my life. I owe her my life in a way. I thought we'd have a future together when she didn't run away when she found out I was in the Mafia. I realise now that she was using that knowledge to manipulate me and it worked. Sometimes she'd tell me not to go do a job as she wanted to spend time with me, one of those days, I lost several people, there was an ambush" Damon started.

"You weren't to blame. And it's awful that she betrayed your trust like that' Clara replied.

"I was going to propose to her" he admitted.

"I'm so sorry Damon"

"How about you, any sad love stories" Damon asked changing the topic. He didn't want to talk about Stephanie anymore.

"Well you killed my ex. But I never really loved him. He was just there for me and I could get out of doing jobs if I was with him. We were friends but I grew to dislike him" she explained.

"Well I'm glad I didn't kill the love of your life" Damon replied.

"I've never been in love and don't think I ever will be, so don't worry you never will" she said.

"Surely there must have been someone " he asked.

"No time. Always working. It's a lonely life" she told him.

"Yeah it is. I know after this we may never speak again but when you do get into a relationship, if he ever hurts you, you can tell me and I'll sort him out " he suggested.

"Well now that all the drama with the Mafia is over you could try dating. Not everyone is like Stephanie "

"I still have alot of mafia stuff. There's more than the one mole you found so I have to deal with that" he explained.

"I could stick around and help?" She suggested.

"If you want " Damon replied with a small smile on his face.

"Might as well. I have no where else to be"

"I really am sorry you know" Damon said. He felt guilty everytime he saw Clara and even more guilty when she was kind to him.

"I know" Clara knew he was sorry for what he did but she couldn't simply forgive him just like that. She wasn't going to be one of those types of girls.

"I won't hurt you ever again. My anger got the best of me" he continued.

"You never killed me though. Why?" She always wondered why she was the prisoner he let go.
Damon didn't know either. "I have no idea" he admitted.
