chapter 104

"who is holly" Clara asked Damon.
"She was a friend. We grew up together. She moved away though" Damon replied.

Clara appreciated the answer and by his tone knew not to push the subject but she could see there was more to the story.

"Are you sleeping in here tonight or the other room" Damon asked already changing the subject.

After Damon had give to his room it wasn't long before Clara followed to get anwsers whilst Mason sorted out Callum and Olivia.

"I'm going to sleep in the other room" she didn't want to but she knew spending to much time together, she would let him in.
Damon didn't say anything but he was worried about her. Something had changed whilst he was gone.

But Damon was Damon and didn't fully know how to show his feelings.

"Fine. You can leave my room now"

And Clara did.

That night she couldn't sleep and she ended up going to the kitchen for a glass of water but on her way she saw Mason in the living room. He could have taken the other spare room but instead he was laid on the sofa however he was awake.

"What are you doing creeping around in the dark? Are you after secrets" Mason said sitting up.

Even though it was dark she could see Mason didn't look happy.

"I couldn't sleep" she replied.

"Because you're scared" he pointed out hoping to find out why.

"Who's holly. Damon seemed to be holding something back "

Mason sighed and got up, he walked over to Clara who looked terrified for a moment.

"What are you scared of " he asked, his tone more gentle.

"I was kidnapped and drugged of course I am going to be scared" she deflected.

"You saw how Damon was tonight. He wouldn't let you have a drink unless you or him poured it. You know he would do anything to keep you safe"

Clara nodded. She knew that but she was afraid he would pick one of his closest friends over her. She knew if he covered it up, she would end things between them.

"Come sit down with me" Mason said flicking on the lights as he walked back to the sofa.

Once they were both sat Masons expression turned even more caring.

"Holly and Damon grew up together. They were inseparable. They were even closer than Callum and Damon now" Mason said knowing Clara needed a proper explanation.

"What happened then" Clara asked.

"She moved away . She would never have taken the job offer in France if it wasn't for Stephanie. I think moving away was best for her though"  Mason said.

"What did Stephanie do? And why was it for the best?"

"You've got to understand Damon slept around alot after Stephanie. He couldn't care less about women's feelings but you changed that. He really does want to be with you" Mason said not knowing how she would take it.  He figured she would be okay with it or would be self conscious about it.

"We all thought he and holly would end up together. In a way they were each others first loves but when Damon and Stephanie got together, Holly became jealous however Damon didn't fully realise until she got the job offer and   they had an argument. She confessed her feelings hoping he would tell her not to leave. He told her at one point he did love her but he was with Stephanie and nothing could ever happen so she moved away" Mason explained.

"Moving away was best, she has a good job offer which she wanted to throw away for Damon. My advice to you would never put Damon before your own success " Mason added.

It was oddly good advice but knowing Holly became jealous that Damon was in a relationship was stressful. It was obvious Olivia was jealous, she did not need another Olivia.

"You know quite a bit of detail" Clara observed.

"Yes it happened at our home and holly came to me with the story and then later that evening Damon ranted to me"

"So if she's just a person from his past why did Callum tell Olivia to shut up" Clara had plenty of questions.

Mason didn't want to anwser that question though.
He never truly got over her leaving

"Damon doesn't like talking about her. Something must have happened in the arguement" Mason replied.

"Should I be worried? I mean Stephanie was a murderous bitch. She's not the same is she?"

"She was part of the mafia but left. If you do come across her she might be a bitch but hopefully she's changed.  Don't worry to much I doubt Damon will want to see her. It's you he wants to be with "

"So they loved each other before Stephanie came along" Clara asked.

"It would never have worked out whether they both loved each other or not.  Besides he's with you now" Mason tried to reassure her.

Clara nodded like it didn't effect her but Damon had never actually said he loved her, they liked each other yes. But did he see a future with her? Did she even see one with him?

She didn't dare think about her feelings further in fear of heartbreak.

Maybe the fear of heartbreak is why she distanced herself again the next day.
Damon tried to talk to her, he tried to make her happy but she remained distant.

He knew he needed to check the CCTV and find the person who drugged Clara but he was preoccupied with trying to find out why she was distancing herself, and he too was distracted with the ongoing kidnapping stuff.

Eventually 2 days later he was fed up of her ignoring him. She didn't spend anytime outside of work with him, she went to her own home.

"I'll be seeing holly this afternoon. You may go home early" he stated blankly at the beggining of the day.
