"Come on," Neveah stomped her feet in frustration and groaned as the chicken trotted its way into the mud.

"Come out now if you don't want me to put you on the skewer," Neveah threatened the chicken who was now busy rolling around in the mud. She sighed in defeat and pulled up the hem of her trousers to go in. Why did they have to come to this village? And why did this chicken had to grab Krystine's ring? This chicken had somehow invaded Krystine's makeup room and made it off with her expensive ring. And now Krystine wanted Neveah to fetch it as she didn't "trust" anyone else with the ring.

Her face screwed up in disgust as her shoes dipped into the mud. She managed to drag her feet through the thick poodle until she fell face-first, caking her face with the mud. The chicken clucked as though mocking her and ran out of the mud by swaying its buttocks in her face. Neveah scowled at it before helping herself up. She looked down at herself and whined one exasperation. Why always her? In the age of being chased by boys, she was chasing chickens. That's so unfair.

After chasing the chicken through a couple of barns, a stable, and a henhouse, she finally managed to get a hand on this wicked creature. She grabbed it by its body and yanked the ring out of its beak. The chicken clucked after being released and ran off.

Neveah got to her feet and eyed the ring with a sense of triumph. She couldn't help but wonder what if Krystine gave her a raise seeing her dedication. Caging the ring in her fist, she headed towards the shooting set. The passersby cast weird glances at her as she walked past them wearing a wide grin.

She opened the door to Krystine's makeup room. All the eyes centered on her as soon as she stepped in.

"Ma'am, I got your ring back," Neveah held up the ring, grinning ear to ear. Krystine sized her up in disgust.

"Who the fuck are you?" Krystine gave her a look of contempt. Neveah blinked at her, confused.

"Ma'am..I am Nevaeh," she started towards Krystine but tripped over her own feet, losing her balance. Eyes wide, she stumbled forward. She reached out her arms to the man standing in front of her hoping he would catch her. But the man in Rayban snuffed her hope by taking a step back, his expression flat and unfeeling as he let her fall face-first onto the ground. She kissed the floor with an embarrassing thud. Nevaeh oomphed in pain and slowly lifted her face to a shiny black shoe. She slowly looked up to find the same man standing over her. He wasn't looking at her though, his face was positioned forward, allowing her a good look at his chiseled jaw.

Nevaeh got up, her cheeks flaming beneath the thick layer of dirt on her face. Clasping her hands in front, she hung her head in shame and silently fought back her tears.

"Are you okay?" a kind man standing beside this rude pig asked her in concern.

"I am okay. Thank you for asking," she replied in a small wavering voice, too embarrassed to lift her gaze and look at him or anyone else.

"She is my assistant Nevaeh," Krystine introduced her to the people in the room in a tone mixed with embarrassment and suppressed anger. She then turned to Nevaeh.

"Place the ring on the table and get yourself washed," Krystine's suggestion held an undertone of warning that only Nevaeh detected. Nevaeh didn't wait for another second to dash out of the door.

"Donkey, Pig, stupid, mean, jerk," Nevaeh cursed that heartless man under her breath, wiping away her tears. How oculd someone be so insensitive? He could have easily caught her if he wanted but he didn't. He moved away as though she was an untouchable. Nevaeh gritted her teeth together. She prayed he slip too in front of thousands of people to feel the humiliation.

She entered the bathroom, huffing and cursing. However, her breath stuck in her throat, and a scream rose in her throat when she noticed a hideous clown in the mirror. The clown also screamed with her, puzzling her. Upon looking closer, she realized it was her reflection. Nevaeh stared at her face which was caked with mud, and feathers sticking up in her hair, she looked like a scarecrow. Damn that chicken.

After washing her face and cleaning her body she returned to Krystine. She felt relieved to see that Krystine was all alone in the room. That rude pig had left. With a sheepish smile, she walked up to Krystine who was combing her hair.

"I am so disappointed in you, Nevaeh. You embarrassed me in front of Volkov," Krystine sighed in disappointment, causing Nevaeh to stop in her tracks. Her eyes wide in astonishment. Mr. Volkov was here? And she tripped in front of him. She cringed internally. What an impression she must have made on him.

"Which one was him?" she asked.

"Who do you think?" Krystine questioned, smirking. Sin Volkov's regal aura easily sets him apart from everyone.

The face of the man who didn't save her flashed in front of her eyes. The man did carry an air of authority. Even though she had stayed in the room for a brief moment, she didn't miss the power and dominance he exuded. His presence had filled the space, commanding attention without effort. From the way he had held himself with so much confidence and certainty, it was clear that he was used to being in charge and calling the shots. He owned the personality of a leader and maybe that's why she was so certain that he would catch her.

So that rude pig is Mr. Volkov? She has no faith in the world anymore.
