"Don't worry, nanna. Everything is fine. I am safe," Nivi spoke into the phone.
"Sin? Yes, he is home....wait a minute," she said, moving towards the balcony. She walked into the balcony only to behold an extraordinary sight that stopped her in her tracks. There he was, standing at the center, motionless, as a swarm of butterflies flitted around him. The delicate creatures danced her man, their wings painted in hues of bright colors. It was a mesmerizing sight which also made her wonder if he was some kind of butterfly magnet, considering this wasn't the first time she had caught him amidst these enchanting creatures. She didn't know why a strange warmth unfurled in her heart as she watched flashes of color fluttering around him, desperately seeking his attention. Orange, yellow, red, blue but the most captivating of them was grey. Stormy grey- which were his eyes.
She approached him in steady strides, no more afraid of coming closer. His eyes instantly shifted from those butterflies to his butterfly. An unconscious smile blossomed on her face as she secretly marveled at how he always seemed to sense her presence as if he awaited her arrival. With each step, the distance between them shrunk and she felt smaller and smaller before his imposing figure. Sometimes it was so hard to believe this mountain of man was her husband.
As she entered his kingdom of butterflies, she felt their delicate wings softly brushing against her skin. Ignoring their playfulness, she extended her phone towards him, "Nanna wants to talk to you. "
He took the phone from her and put it on speaker.
"Grandma?" he spoke into the phone.
"Sin? You didn't call in the morning," Nanna complained. A winsome smile, almost childlike, spread across his face, sending her heart into a flurry of warmth and wonder. She caught a glimpse of his childhood.
"I am sorry, grandma. I got busy somewhere else," he responded. He would call her four times a day but today he caught up in something.
"Anyway, tell me you are taking good care of my Nivi," she asked. At that, Sin turned his gaze upon her. Their eyes met, locking in like a magnet. His dark, mysterious eyes peered into hers, demanding her answer but she was too out of it to convey.
"I hope so," he replied, maintaining their eye contact.
"Hmmm.....well, so when are you giving me my great-grandchild?" Nanna questioned out of the blue, surprising both of them. Her eyes grew wide before a tint of pink warmed her cheeks.
He glanced down at the screen and asked, "Now where did it come from?
"The caretaker I have here keeps boasting about her grandchildren. How they are smart, funny, overactive, blah blah blah. I want to boast too," she disclosed. Sin and Nivi exchanged an amused glance.
"So you want us to have a kid so that you could boast to your caretaker," Sin asked, amused.
"Sure enough," Nanna replied all certain. Sin sighed.
He locked his gaze with Nivi as he declared, "As much as I sympathize with your little situation, Grandma, we are going to have kids only when my wife wants. After all, it's her body."
Damn, this man for hitting at the right spot.
"Ohh, she's always wanted kids. I am sure she can't wait to start her family. It must be you playing the villain here," Nanna accused, unaware of the truth. Nivi looked away from him.
"We'll talk about this," he responded. His grandma hung up after that.
She fidgeted with her fingers, suddenly feeling awkward.
"Don't worry about what she said," he assured her. Nivi searched his eyes, seeking what, she also didn't know. The woman hesitated for a moment before asking.
