Embarrassingly enough, he had practiced in the mirror multiple times. Many multiple times.
Flirting was not something he typically had to worry about, Star did most of the heavy lifting. But lately those strange feelings were growing. He found himself more easily being convinced to do things, he found himself able to smile less weirdly, he had even gotten flustered when he'd walked into the bathroom and Connie was topless.
She barely reacted past a 'hello' but he had to immediately back away before he said something creepy.
Star was always telling him he was creepy, and it bothered him that he wasn't human enough not to be. It would always be apart of him, even the other Crystal Gems could still be off at times and they'd been living on Earth for centuries.
"Hi, Connie," He started, trying to sound confident and like he had a soul.
Immediately she sensed something when his tone wasn't so empty. "Hi, Diamond." She narrowed her eyes and leaned closer. "Are you... are you flirting with me?"
He blinked. "I don't know."
She smirked, her nose wrinkling up cutely. "Well, you look like you're about to start flirting. You sound like you're flirting."
Star glanced over from the couch, trying to hold back laughter. "Hi, Connie~," He put overdramatic swooning into his voice and threw his hand over his forehead, twirling one of his curls around his finger.
Diamond gritted his teeth in embarrassment and sighed. "How am I looking like I am flirting with you?" He had to know for future reference.
Connie tilted her head back and moved up onto her tippy toes. "You just had that look that Steven and Star get when they get all flirty and romantic. I like it." She kissed him and went back to writing notes from her textbook.
"But... how?" He pressed, putting a hand over her notes. "How do you decide it's flirting?
She scowled but regarded him again. "Star?"
"You gotta have charisma. I think ours transferred to me, so you're SOL. Gonna have to fuse to get that back." Star popped some popcorn into his mouth and leaned his head back to grin at Diamond.
"I don't need to fuse to look at Connie and know she's gorgeous, you fucking idiot," He snapped but Connie gasped.
"Diamond, that's flirting! I mean, mostly? You'll figure it out, big guy." She pulled him in for another kiss, this time a lingering one that made him buzz.
"Please just accept my awkward attempts at flirting," He begged.
"Keep it up, I like being told I'm gorgeous." She winked at him and chuckled when he rubbed at his neck. "Start with that."
"She also likes having her butt grabbed!"
"Star!"
