Connie could feel it. It was impossible not to, and it was impossible not to notice either.

"Is there a reason you're blushing like that?" Steven raised an eyebrow and ghosted a finger over her cheek.

She didn't look at him, she couldn't bear to. "Yeah. No."

"Yeah no?" He leaned around to look at her but she avoided it.

"It's nothing," She said unconvincingly. "Literally nothing."

His eyes darted around for a few confused moments before he smirked, "Ohhhhh..."

She scrunched her face in embarrassment. "Please don't."

"I have to." He pressed his hand against her cheek and yanked it back like it burned. "You're burning up!"

"I am not burning up. I don't have a fever." Her voice was fragile and shaky but she tried to stand her ground and avoid his gaze.

"I know, you're just obsessed with me stepping out of the shower and walking around topless," He pecked her cheek and laughed when she darkened and dropped her head into her hands.

"No it's not. I'm not. Whatever."

"Awww... you're like, actually vermillion. It's so precious," He pulled her hands away from her face. "You can look at me, you know. It's not going to kill you."

"But it might," She whispered. "It just might."

He forced himself not to laugh and brought her hands to his face. "See? I'm blushing too."

She cracked open an eye and dissolved into his arms to hide. "It's not like that, I swear."

He chuckled and pulled her the rest of the way onto his lap so she was straddling him. "You can cuddle with me shirtless at any time."

"I hate my stupid brain for sending so much adrenaline to my stupid heart." She whined.

"Is... is that what blushing is?"

"Yes, Steven. It's apparently to attract mates," She informed him and to her horror he whispered,

"It's working."
