A week went by and Hermione was satisfied by how well the plan was taking place. Sure, she was feeling guilty by how much Zack seemed to enjoy spending time with her. But they were friends before this and Hermione convinced herself that he thought they were just friends. But she knew he wanted more.
As hard as it was to "lead" Zack on, Hermione knew it was for the best. Zack was a stronger person emotionally (and maybe physically) than Draco. She would never say that to Draco though since she knew his ego would deny it.
"Granger," an anxious voice cut Hermione out of her thoughts. She turned her head in the direction of where she heard the voice and knew Draco was underneath the Cloak. Good thing Harry hasn't needed it in a while.
"What?" She spat through gritted teeth. Anyone could notice that they were talking, as they were in the hallways in between classes.
"Remember to talk to him now. Gryffindors and Slytherins are on break."
Hermione scoffed. He's been giving her orders all week. "How about I do this by myself, Malfoy. You don't need to follow me everywhere. I think I can handle this."
She didn't need Draco to be invisible to know that he was smug.
"Granger, please. Last time I checked, you didn't know how to talk to boys. I'm here to guide you."
"I don't need your guiding!" Hermione raised her voice. "Some guys like me for me! I don't need to pretend to be a bimbo to get one!"
"That's not what I meant.." Draco said quietly and Hermione started power walking towards Zack when she saw his green eyes across the crowd.
That will teach him. Good luck getting through the crowd without having someone notice you're invisible.
"Hermione!" Zack greeted Hermione and grinned. She returned the grin and motioned towards the door.
"Let's go outside for our free period, yeah?"
"Sure," he agreed and followed Hermione outside.
The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day outside. Hermione and Zack walked towards the lake and took a seat on the green grass.
"Worried about your test next hour in Potions?" Hermione asked and Zack laid down in the grass with his arms under his head. His green eyes met hers and Hermione was aware of how muscular he was.
"Nah, I should be good," He said nonchalantly and Hermione debated whether or not she should lay next to him or not.
She decided to lay with him. After all, it would awkward just to watch someone lay down.
Once she was settled, she turned her head and looked up at him. "So confident all the time, aren't you?"
He shrugged his shoulder and scooted and a little closer to Hermione. "Pretty much."
Hermione playfully hit him. Sometimes it surprised her how much she could be a natural flirt. "Well I spent the whole night studying. Knowing Snape, he would take off points if I forgot one detail."
"Good thing you're Hermione Granger, then. You can do all things."
Hermione blushed and hit him again. "By the way, what's Draco up to these days?"
Zack went still and stared at the bright blue sky ahead of him. Hermione had to play clueless, yet still get him to check in on Draco. This conversation was her one shot. She could tell he didn't want to talk about it again.
"I don't know," he replied in a different tone of voice.
Hermione had to choose her next words carefully. "He seems really distant and...distracted lately."
"Yeah. Well. He's got problems."
"He has problems...or he's dealing with problems?"
"I guess you could say he's got a lot to deal with." Zack said firmly and stared at the sky harder.
"I'm just worried. I think you should help him out with whatever it is that he's dealing with. If it's pretty big, Draco could-"
"You don't know what he's dealing with, though," Zack interrupted in a different tone.
"But you probably do." Hermione touched his wrist and Zack looked up at her. In a softer tone, she spoke to him, "Please, Zack. I know you guys used to be close. I don't want you to lose that relationship, even if it is Malfoy."
He stared into her eyes and then, out of nowhere, his lips touched hers. Hermione was shocked at first, she was not expecting that reaction. He grabbed her head and brought her closer. Hermione was on top of him before she knew it, lips locked in an embrace.
She pulled away, out of breath. "So that's a yes?"
He stared into her eyes so intensely, for a moment Hermione thought he was going to kiss her again.
"If that's what you want, then yes."
Hermione smiled. "That means a lot to me."
He played with one of her curls for a second and then said, "Anything for Miss Granger," which made her laugh and playfully hit him again.

"Draco!" Hermione exclaimed once she saw Zack go into his classroom. He was sitting in the corner of the hallway, looking out the window.
"Guess what?" Hermione said again since he never answered.
"Draco?" Hermione poked his arm and he finally turned around and looked in her eyes.
"What is it?" He asked, monotonously.
"I got Zack to agree to help you!" Hermione beamed and waited for his delighted reaction that never came.
"Draco? Aren't you happy? That plan is working!"
"Why did you kiss him like that?" Draco asked out of nowhere and Hermione's beam suddenly went away.
"What?" Hermione asked.
"You heard me," Draco said.
"Th-that was part of plan! Right? You wanted me to be like that!" How could he even ask that?
"Yeah but I didn't want it to be for real." He said and Hermione's anger was at the point of boiling over.
"It wasn't for real! It was acting!"
"Don't play games with me, Hermione. I saw the way you were looking at him. The way he was looking at you."
Hermione's eyes threatened to spill tears but she would not allow them out. "Excuse me for trying to be good friend."
Hermione stomped out of the hallway and didn't turn back.
