Chapter 30 - Marry me

Jacob's POV (Jaxon's Father)

Today's a big day for the whole pack. We have all been waiting for a few years for Jaxon to find his Mate and the packs New Luna so that Robyn can focus on the little things to do with the pack.

And when he had planned to go to the season's Annual ball in August, he never thought he would find his Mate there. And not only was she there but she was also abused by her Alpha, her former Alpha and many other of the pack members.

When Jaxon texted his mother to let her know he had found his mate but her brother was also coming we didn't expect to see her in the way we did see her. Neither did we expect to see Finley that way either but he was.

She was so underweight and so malnourished my heart went out to Jaxon. It was a difficult few weeks at the start as she never allowed anybody but Finley to help her and sometimes Robyn.

Her family threw them out at such a young age that even when she learnt how to fend for herself and her brother she was far too weak to do anything else, on top of having to do that she was a slave to Alpha Langley's crew who physically and emotionally abused her.

After the first month, she was starting to add some weight and she looked healthier which was brilliant, I knew my lad would step up and be the mate she needed and deserved. They finally mated and completed the bonding by marking each other.

She and Finley have become a huge part of our family and have become very independent in ways I never thought they would. Finley has started his training properly now and Esme did 2 sessions until she found out she was pregnant.

We don't allow pregnant wolves to fight as it could harm the mother and the unborn child and with Esme Carrying our first Heir to the family we wouldn't allow her to put any stress on herself.

"Dad" Jaxon shouts. This means he needs something.

"I'm in here," I say without looking in his general direction. It's Christmas Day morning and he was supposed to be helping his mother sort some stuff out this morning but he asked if Charlie could do it. It was very rare he asked if someone else could do it as he's like me, he's a workaholic so we didn't mind.

"What's up son"

"I want to ask you how I would go about asking Esme to marry me"

Now he's got my full attention.

"Is it too soon?" he asks sensing my surprised face.

"You've been with Mom for decades," he says while nervously roaming around my office.

"Can you relax a bit? Let's talk about how you want to do this so we don't mess it up okay"

He's a good lad with a good heart. He has been alpha for a while now and I felt like he deserved it even before he turned 18 and got Blaze. He's always been headstrong and straightforward with things so I knew I wouldn't need to have to stick around once he's Alpha of the Midnight pack. It all came naturally to him.

After spending an hour planning the perfect proposal he seeks to find Finley to ask him for his permission. Not that he needs it but he wants to have his blessing in it which I understand and have respect for.

I head downstairs and I am instantly hit with the smell of lilies and Buttercream and it's a smell I will never be able to get over.

"Hello, darling. How did work go?" Robyn asks.

"It went alright I've still got some stuff to do because Jaxon came in fretting. But he's sworn me to secrecy for now so you'll find out later on"

I tell her while taking a muffin from the tray she's just baked.

"Is he finally going to propose yet? and stop taking muffins, Now I know where your sons get them from." She asked. She raised an eyebrow at the fact that I almost got cheeky with her but I didn't need to finish it seemed that I knew it wouldn't be a proposal tonight It would be my funeral.

"What...how did you"

"A mother knows everything dear" she tells me while smacking my bum on her way past me.

"We'll keep it to yourself for now alright"

I walk behind her and because my beard is brittle I use it to my full advantage which makes her giggle in front of me but she can't move because I've got her caged between me and the counter.

"It's a Christmas gift to her and she has no idea. He wanted to ask Finley for permission first"

"Oh he's a good lad, both our boys are"

As the day goes on, the gifts are handed out and dinner has been eaten we all sit around laughing and joking. Hunter and Charlie had a few errands to run and Jaxon's speech will be happening shortly once everyone has gathered in the hall. Well, those who wanted to attend. It wasn't mandatory.

"Alright, ladies and gentlemen. If I could have your attention please" Jaxon says into the microphone. I'm full of pride and respect for my lad up there about to ask the love of his life to marry him.

"I know you are all enjoying your Christmas break and food and thanks to our maids who are currently eating their dinner right now so please be patient with them they will be in soon to clear up but I have a few announcements to make this evening and a surprise for our loved Luna Esme"

She didn't look surprised they had spoken about telling the whole pack of the pregnancy but they wanted to wait until this evening to do it once all the mayhem had slowed down partially. She looks pleased and proud and I'm so proud of her.

"Is it just me or does she look a little pale Robyn?"

"Will you stop panicking, in her condition what do you expect they are? I'm sure if she's feeling ill Jaxon will take her out of here"

"Anyway, Esme and I have been planning on telling everyone this evening about the amazing surprise that I received yesterday evening. As some of you know Esme has recently joined the pack but we found out yesterday that we are expecting our first little Pup in 8 weeks' time. She's 4 weeks along now and I wanted to share this with you all before she gets bigger and you all know it isn't food baby"

The crowd including me and all of our friends and family erupted in cheers and laughter and excited faces filled the room with a lot of wolf howls following by closely.

"Thank you all! But that isn't the surprise I was talking about. You see Esme came into my life in the most unexpected way and it wasn't planned but I'm so thankful it happened because I am so glad to be here with you tonight. To walk into another year but this time it'll be with you by my side. You fill my heart with joy and love and the feelings I won't admit to this lot here"

Again the crowd is laughing at him and joining in with the banter and I know 110% that he's trying to crack on so he doesn't mess it up and bottle it.

"Anyway, I would like to take this moment to appreciate the one thing on this planet that makes me feel alive and happy so here it goes. Esme west..."

He's got down on one knee in front of almost 500 people to ask the one person he truly and only sees right now to marry him...

"You have become a major role in keeping me grounded in my life and a soon-to-be mother whose hormones strike me as odd and sometimes all I do is breathe and you growl at me but that's what I love most about you. You're fearless and you make me the happiest wolfman on this planet... will you do me the honours of marrying me and becoming my wife...?

The crowd gasps but it's all silent.

I hold my breath in hopes that she's heard him correctly and is just taking a second to herself.
