Kai's POV
Perfect.
Everything about her is perfect. Her hair splayed out on my pillows, her body curled into the duvet that's pressing against her chest and her soft, even breathing and light snores are the only sounds in my room right now.
"Alpha"
"Yeah?"
"We've got a lead on the rogue wolves that have been surrounding the outer perimeter of the pack"
"Bring them in. Take them to the-"
"Yes, Alpha. We will be in the dungeon when you are ready. Take your time"
The one thing I hate about being an Alpha is this. Knowing that sometimes there are things that I cannot change or take a handle on the outside of my land. Put me in a board room full of sarcastic assholes any day. Place me in a room with maths problems and a shit ton of coffee by all means but I can't stand the not knowing of any situation. My men and warriors are nothing but great. They do their jobs and they get highly rewarded.
Since being the Alpha of my pack, I have never encountered a rogue wolf. They tend to dodge a lot of our lands and the only reason for them to be in our land at all is to sniff out information. Intel. Something to transfer back to their rogue pack.
Sighing I turn onto my side and move Millie's soft hair from her face. I don't want to wake her up but I also don't want to leave here and have her worried that I just abandoned her here.
"Millie" I quietly say into her ear. She murmurs a simple "five more minutes" before snuggling further into the duvet.
Good god, of course, my woman prefers to snuggle a duvet than her own mate.
"Princess, I've got to get up and go deal with something. I'd like for you to stay in bed and get some more sleep" I say. The hard-on I'm currently sporting is making it painfully hard to even think right now and all I want to do is sink deep inside her and stay like that for the rest of our days.
"You go. Your beds too comfy" She smiles as she says this. One eye opens a little bit while the other one stays firmly shut as if she wants me to bugger off.
"Alrighty then" I playfully slap her ass while prying my body off hers. She doesn't even move as I open and close my drawers and pull out clothes that I'll be needing for this.
Whoever thinks they can walk my borders and get away can think again. Or they need a reminder of just who they are dealing with.
Pulling out my phone I dial my brother who picks up after the first ring.
"This better be good because I currently have a blonde about to give me-"
"I don't even want to know. Fuck that. We have a problem."
"What kind of problem?" he asks and I can hear rustling and a woman grumble of protest but I don't give a shit. My brother is there to be my right-hand man. He's supposed to be the calm to my storm.
"Rogue problem. One was spotted near the borders. One of our warriors have brought him down to the basement so we can question the fucker" I say. I don't like confrontation but I've also had my fair share of them over the years. I learnt to school my facial features and become cold and calculating. I don't plan and do deals that revolve around simple-mindedness. I base and plan deals on logistics and numbers. Problems and better outcomes.
All it takes is for one thing to go wrong. One thing to fuck up at the wrong time and it could cost me my life or the life of one of my warriors and family.
It could cost me my girl.
Millie.
Just thinking about her has my heart rate racing and my sense of what is currently supposed to be happening is just gone. I'm a goner for this woman. For the woman who feels like she's broken. For the woman who has had a good life but still feels like a burden to those she loves. My heart skips a song instead of a beat when she texts me back or when she messages me first.
It takes a lot for someone to admit when they feel at their most vulnerable.
When I finally blink at what I'm doing, I'm already walking down the steps to the outer bunkers. It's a giant basement but with a bunker vibe. You don't get cell service down here and you don't have people hearing you when you are trying to extract any kind of information.
Just the thought of anyone hurting my pack has my
Claws itching to expand. To slice through flesh and let them know not to mess with my pack.
I can smell the rogue wolf. The smell makes my head dizzy.
"Alpha" Zade, one of my many top warriors says. His head bowed and hands clasped behind his head in a shower of respect.
"Zade" I nod to him. I'm not in friendly Alpha mode right now. I'm in 'I do not want to be disturbed because I'm territorial' mode. If that were ever a thing. If it were ever a thing then I'd be in that mode the moment I step back inside my business downtown.
"What have we got?" I ask as we make our way to the end hallway door.
"She won't speak"
"She?" I say feeling like I've just been hit with a ton of bricks. I usually seek out male Rogue wolves. I don't usually need to deal with the female side as they usually follow in different footsteps. Different beliefs and different types of people. That's what I got from several sources that we have caught previously.
"Yes, Alpha. Won't say her name. She's battered and bruised. Like...really bad"
"Great. So I have a mute woman in my dungeon who doesn't want to speak about why she's trespassing on my property. Just fucking great" I mutter under my breath.
I was telling myself I was prepared for this intervention with them. What I was not expecting was the lonely, broken look from the semi-naked woman in my dungeons.
"Christ almighty" I whisper to myself. There's no way she will speak with me. There's no way that I'll get any information about what she was doing here. Cold-hearted or not, I'm not that mean.
"Alpha, I don't think we're going to get anywhere with her. Your mother is away with your father until next Saturday at a resort and we have no one else to help" Zade says as he stands next to me.
"I know one person. If she will do it."
"Who?"
"My mate. Millie"
The shock is written on his face when I make eye contact with him. No one apart from my parents and brother and best friend knows that I have found my mate. I didn't want to introduce her to them straight away but right now, I need her to try and help me.
"Your- Mate?"
"Let your brain catch up Zade. Yes, my mate" I laugh. I can't help it, my brain keeps thinking of her scent. Her body. Her luscious lips. Her-
"Stop brain fucking her. If she can help then I think you should go and call her" he says giving me a once-over and smirking. I have a decent relationship with everyone here and I can have a laugh and a joke with them when needed but right now... I need my woman.
