Jaxon's POV
In the sprawling halls of the pack house at 7:30 am, which is classed as the rush hour when every one gets ready for the day ahead, kids go to school and parents begin their usual work, I watch as Esme emerged from her our room carrying Reggie on one arm and a coffee in her other hand, her spirit was now beginning to flicker with newfound light and energy which was always good especially on these types of days.
As our eyes met across the room, I felt a surge of warmth and gratitude. Esme had been through so much, but her unwavering strength and determination had guided her through a dark period of her life and once again she will bounce back slowly, stronger and better. Now, with the support of our family and the love that the pack gives her on a daily basis, she was slowly finding her way back to herself.
Over the past month since her medication has started to kick in a little better, she had made a conscious effort to engage with the pack. She attended gatherings again, even if it was just meetings or a special birthday she would be there, she also managed participate in the hunts for Rylie's birthday. Rylie is a child who was orphaned into our pack when her mother passed away so she's become family easily. She wanted a huge chocolate hunt and that is what she got. After a while of pacing back and forth and asking herself questions about if she was doing the right thing or not she managed to spend time with her brother and sister, Max and Frankie, While she still maintained a certain distance when necessary, I could see that she was genuinely enjoying their company.
One evening, as we sat together by the fireplace while Reggie and Delilah was sleeping, Esme turned to me with a hesitant smile. 'Jaxon,' she began, 'I've realized something.'
I leaned forward, my heart pounding with anticipation.
'I've been so focused on my pain and isolation that I've neglected so much of what life has to offer or what the pack has tried to do for me and even our family,' she said. 'I have missed a lot over the last month or two, you know with me being like this and I felt terrible. No one had asked me to be that way and I feel as though I owe you an apology because you have been so patient with me. Again' she says.
The tears glistened in her eyes, but this time they were tears of hope and renewal instead of fear and anxiousness.
'I don't want to live in the shadows anymore,' she continued. 'I want to embrace all that life has to offer and share it with you and our children.'
I pulled her into my arms, my heart filled with an overwhelming sense of love and pride. Esme had taken the first step on a long journey, but I knew that with her determination and my unwavering support, she would find her way.
In the days that followed, Esme continued to blossom. She took some baking lessons with my mom so she could learn how not to burn everything, She spent hours playing with our two young pups, sharing laughter and stories with her siblings.
As I watched her interact with the pack, I couldn't help but feel a sense of fulfilment and slight achievement. Esme had found her place among her people along time ago but she never embraced it the way she has done tonight, and I was honoured to be her mate and protector.
One afternoon, as we ran in our wolf forms through the forest together, I hear her mind linking me slowing me down in my tracks to be close to her, 'Jaxon, don't slow down but just listen to me okay' she said, her voice soft and filled with emotion, I nod my wolf head or should I say Blaze nodded his head and proceeded to run fast. 'I want you to know that I love you more than words can say. You've always been my beacon of hope, my guiding light. I wouldn't be where I am today without you. I don't want you to be mad at what I'm about to suggest but for now I would like to speak to the doctor about going on some form of pill so I can't have anymore children'
I stop in my tracts, Probably a littler harsher than I intended to do but I look at her, I know the reason why she wants this, I understand every reason but my heart just felt that little bit hurt at the idea even though it shouldn't.'
I stopped in my tracks and turned to face her. 'Es,' I replied, my voice calm and collected the way she would need me to be right now and I continue my reasoning. 'you are my everything. I love you with every fibre of my being. I understand why you want to do this I do, I think having this conversation in my head was a lot better but hearing you say it aloud just threw me off track baby'
' I get it I do, I just can't go through this again and this choice is for now. There is nothing to say that I won't stop in a years time and we try again baby okay I just want to know your not mad'
'Of course I'm not mad. And I would like that! Lets take each day as it comes and tomorrow we will have a walk with our two little rascals and we will see what they can give you. How's that sound?'
'It sounds like a good plan! Thankyou. Now race you back to the pack. Loser makes the cuppas' she says as she sprints off. Not giving me a fair race but I don't need a fair race, I should outrun her easily.
As the sun began to set, we got back to the pack, she was already there when I managed to pick up plenty of speed and was laughing out loud. The sun was casting a golden glow over the forest, I knew that being out in the gardens and woods would even do me a world of good. It felt so good to be out for a run. It isn't until Charlie mind links me telling me we have a member of our pack who has found there mate that I tell Esme I will make her a cup of tea when I get back down and then go on upstairs. We don't usually meet the packs mates unless we are having them in our pack or if they go we have to now what pack they're from and there Alpha so I can arrange for the member to be sent to there lands.
Busy evening ahead. Paper work I didn't want to do tonight but I cant put this off any longer. I walk into my office and I'm shocked to Reece, who is our main warrior has found his mate. He's 28 years old and has always put off finding his fated love. But how the bloody heck did he meet here? That's the only thing Intriguing me.
