Kai's POV
I smell it again.
I got a whiff of Vanilla mixed with something else in the airport but when I turned around I wasn't greeted by anyone else looking around.
No one looking for me.
It was really busy since it was the exact time most of the gates were opening and closing so I didn't manage to catch her scent for long but right now as I drive up the gates driveway to Midnight pack I can smell her scent once again.
Pulling my car up as close as I can I step up to the door and knock.
Patiently waiting for someone to open it.
A little older woman opens the door and pulls me inside.
"Alpha...?" She asks as she scans a list and politely smiles at me. Most people fear me or they avoid eye contact but she's looking directly at me.
"Sorry, I'm sorry my bad love, I'm Magda, I work here and I'm instructed to have the Alpha's sent to their quarters"
"Sorry, hello Magda, it's Alpha Rhodes"
"Mr Rhodes. Please follow me" she says but I can't help the feeling of something going completely wrong while I'm here. The feeling is really strong the further I climb up the stairs to my room. My brother should already be there and settling in but I'm drawn to another door. The door next to mine.
"Mr Hayes will be with you all shortly. If you need anything please don't hesitate to come downstairs and I will cook you something up" she says patting my arm in respect and a grandmotherly love kind of way before heading out of my room.
I thank Magda and turn to head into my room and drop my bags, making sure no one's outside or in looking distance I turn and head into the room next to mine.
The walls are a light grey with purple and black patterns all over, and the queen-sized bed that sits in the centre of the room with fluffy pillows and blankets and photos of a family sit everywhere. Some with just a boy in them, some with the same boy and another girl.
Twins?
"May I help you?" I soft voice behind me says.
I turn around and I'm greeted by a small woman, there's no spark when I look at her, there's no scent coming from her that I want, and there isn't anything in her that I crave like I do with the scent so strong it's giving me a headache.
"I'm sorry...who are you?" I ask her
She smiles and walks further into the room.
"Poppy." She says and then looks away before snapping her head back in realization. "Shit, I'm sorry Alpha, I didn't mean to be rude. I'm Poppy Hayes." She says holding out her hand. Just to make sure I'm correct, I place my hand in hers and shake her hand and no, I'm correct...there isn't any spark in our touch.
"Hello, Poppy. Alpha Kai" I say before turning back to a photo of three children. Three beaming smiles looking at the camera on the beach.
"Who is this?" I ask her.
"Me, my sister and our brother. Alpha Reggie" she says giving me a soft smile.
I put the photo down and picked up another. Two girls in graduation caps and gowns smiling so brightly once again. Placing the photo back down I pick up something on the bed and I hear her gasp behind me when I breathe in. Turning around with whatever I have in my hands, I look at Poppy still standing there gaping at me.
"I'm- I'm sorry but... you're smelling my sister's things as if she's your-"
"Mate" I whisper admitting the feeling out loud. My wolf is going nuts in my head and he isn't helping a single fucking thing. It's the feeling of her that settles something inside me. I just want to curl up in here and sleep for a week. I could sleep so well with her scent next to me I'm sure.
