Chapter 92: Finger talk

Millie's POV

40 minutes.

I counted, and yes I counted because it feels weird being in his space without him here. It makes me feel out of place.

Sitting up on his bed I feel my phone vibrating. Pulling it out of the pillow I spot his name and instantly smile.

"Hey," I say while rubbing my hand across my drool-covered mouth.

"Morning princess. I have a situation and if I could I would ask my mother but she's not here-"

"What's wrong?" I ask him. I can sense his resistance to tell me much. Why though I'm not sure.

"I can't talk about it over the phone. I have to ask if you would help though. Do you have any spare clothes? Female.."

My heart drops. Why would he need female clothes? What is really going on?

"Don't think too close about it sweetheart, honestly I can't tell you on the phone but can you meet me?"

"Y-yes, okay. Yes, I'll meet you."

"Thank you, princess!"

"Kai, wait!" I say hurrying to say the obvious.

"What's wrong?"

"Where do I go? I don't know your place and if someone catches me I'm as good as"

"Don't even finish that one. I'll come back to the house and fetch you" he says and hangs up. Putting on some tight jeans and a nice top with a jumper to cover me up seems like it is really early and probably a bit cold.

After getting my shoes on I'm met with the sound of the door closing and Kai's beautiful frame entering my field of vision.

God damn.

"Eyes up here sweetheart"

And they do. They trail up until I'm met with his beautiful eyes. The smirk on his face gave me butterflies where butterflies have never been before.

"What's going on?" I ask standing and taking his hand.

"A rogue wolf. Someone found herself in our lands and we need to know why. She's basically naked, she shifted out of wolf form but has no clothes besides what she has on. Battered and bruised, not deaf because she shakes her head. Mute though...possible" he says and thank god I took on sign language growing up.

"Okay. Okay, I'll help. Have you got people there?" I ask him and he nods.

"Cameras all over. Won't chance for her to get violent and survive it"

"Okay. I don't know how else I can get her to talk if you can't but I'll try" I say.

He kisses me and my god it's a lot to handle. Just him being himself is a lot to handle.

All muscle and built like a brick wall... that's enough to drive any woman to the edge.

"Eyes," he says laughing.

"Yeah. Yours are beautiful" I mutter then laugh out loud. Thankfully we managed to sleep next to each other without my stupid brain conjuring up a sexual scenario.

We head out of the house and down to where this woman is being kept. I can smell her scent from here and it's strong. Must have been a rogue for quite some time if her scent is this strong.

A mixture of "Alpha" and "Boss" is echoed through the hall and no one looks my way. Apart from one.

"My. My Alpha"

"Zip it dickhead" Kai says but there's no malice to his words.

"She is in here," he says so she is. When the door is opened and the lights are on she lifts her head. She looks no older than me.

"I can try" I whisper to Kai who kisses my head.

"I'll be right here."

"You can close the door," I say so I have some privacy to try.

"No. Not a chance sweetheart. I'll be right here"

My heart is beating so hard I don't know what it is I'm supposed to do or say. How do you approach someone who is in this state? How do you console someone who won't talk, is it a medical reason? Selective or is there a valid reason she won't speak?

"Hi. My name is Millie what's yours?" I ask her. Kai said she can hear but doesn't talk. So I sign it and her eyes widen in surprise.

"You know sign?" she says back with her hands.

" I do. I learnt it when I was in a bad place" I explain to her. I can hear everyone talking behind me but I block them out.

"What's your name?" I ask her. Signing wasn't so hard to learn. It made it easier to communicate with people who couldn't speak directly through their voice.

"Hadley. Hadley O'Connor"

"How old are you Hadley?"

"18. I- I didn't know I came across your lands. I mean no harm" she says in a rush and I believe her. I believe she didn't notice what she was doing.

A commotion reaches the door which scares Hadley and makes her cower by the wall. Her safe space.

"Kai! Who the Fuck is in there!" the loud commotion even scares me but I refuse to let this scared woman see my emotions other than the ones I'm giving right now in front of her.

"I don't know what's going on. Back off alright! Millie-"

"Your mate Millie?"

"Christ...yes...let me finish dickhead!" Kai grumbles but I shut them out instead focusing on her once again.

"It's okay" I sign. "My mate, Alpha Kai, just wants to know who you are or where you came from. I bought you clothes" I explain and hand over the bag. Her skin is cold but she grips my hand as if she needs the lifeline.

"Sweetheart, I don't understand finger talk"

I look down and smile at the floor.

"Can Kai come over? He means no harm and is very good at listening" I tell her to which she agrees.

"Close the door and come here," I tell him to which he pushes everyone out of the way and comes down to where I'm crouched.

"What's going on? Who is she and why is she here?"
