A.N. We're back 🥳 Happy new year, let's have a blast in 2024!

The trigger warning for this chapter is heartbreak. It's going to get worse before it gets better 💜

"Kook!"

The truck was jumping in all directions as Ella drove them away as quickly as possible. Leah had trouble gripping anything to stay put, but she frankly didn't care. She was trying to pull Jungkook away, but he was not reacting; he was just cowering over Namjoon while babbling incoherently.

"Kook! Move away! Let me see!"

Fuck, the blood was everywhere and she had no idea how bad it was. She didn't even know who it was from, but judging by Jungkook's reaction and Namjoon's lack thereof, she could guess.

She finally managed to push Jungkook aside, but his lividness couldn't prepare her.

Namjoon wasn't breathing. His eyes were dull and his paleness could only contrast with the blood that covered him from the chin down. She moved Jungkook's bloody hands to see and she sobbed.

The bullet severed part of his neck, probably his jugular by the way it was still leaking warm blood. She sobbed anxiously again, how could they fix it?

She turned and opened the glass window to the truck's interior.

"You need to switch with me!"

Ella was confused, "What?!"

The truck was so loud they had to scream.

"Namjoon was shot! His neck is open, you need to—" The truck lost traction and fell, interrupting Leah and hiding Ella's clenched jaw. "You need to—!"

"There's nothing I can do."

Ella's tone was cold and Leah shook her head in disbelief, "But come and look! Maybe you can—!"

"There's nothing I can do!" Ella screamed furiously. "I have nothing with me to close it!"

Leah fell backward on her butt, speechless. She looked around them and reality hit her in the face: the clinic was gone, and they had no medical supplies with them aside from a few pills and bandages inside her bag. She turned to Jungkook; he was still pressuring the wound while crying and shaking his head. She sucked in a breath and wiped her tears with her blood-covered hand — bandages wouldn't do anything, they needed to suture his wound, maybe his jugular, and to jumpstart his heart and transfuse blood and—

She took another deep breath and looked at the sky momentarily. They had no options. There was nothing she could do.

She neared Jungkook and placed her arms around him and he struggled again, he didn't want to move away. But Leah didn't pull him away. She simply held him while supporting her forehead on his back. She cried quietly and breathlessly like this for a long time, until his wails quieted down. Then, only the truck's engine kept roaring on.

That sound was clearly disturbing the jungle, making it seem lifeless as the birds flew away and the wind rustled the trees. Leah had no idea where they were going and she cared very little. She doubted Jungkook cared too. After all, it had been a while. They wouldn't ever make it in time.

After one hour, Ella finally exited the rough road and entered what was clearly a main road. She kept on driving for about thirty minutes until she suddenly made a sharp turn. The road descended again, surrounded by tree branches and roots making the truck jump until it came to a full abrupt stop.

Leah raised her head to look around while Ella exited the car, slamming the door. Leah saw nothing but more jungle.

"Move aside," Ella's voice sounded. She had jumped onto the back of the truck too.
