Trigger warning: violence and torture

---

She immediately did. "Lamar."

He crouched next to her for a moment as they both paid attention to the noise of gunshots still coming from the other side of the outpost.

"What are you doing here?" She asked.

"Ethan called and I was in the area. You're lucky we crossed paths," he explained while he quickly prepared his sniper rifle to stay on his back and switched it for an automatic rifle. She raised a confused eyebrow and he added, "The car. That was me."

She sighed in relief, "Thank goodness."

"Did you get the friend?"

"Yes, we have him in the car."

"Then why the fuck did you come here?" He growled, "You're lucky I saw you."

"You're not the only one who saw us," she said bitterly. "The guards here saw us and at the docks maybe too, and we couldn't risk the chase."

"Yes, you could have," he disagreed dryly. Shots in the distance calmed and became scarce, which made her stomach turn. "Whatever, let's go. Jungkook is here, right?"

They were already moving out while crouching and she was momentarily speechless. It was funny that Lamar would ask that as the outpost's destruction became clear. Someone had fun with grenades and Molotov cocktails judging by the number of things on fire, be it a couple of huts, cars, crates, or just vegetation.

"Let's split and be on your guard," he said quietly. "Don't kill or be killed by Jungkook but don't get caught by a cartel guy either."

She agreed, gun at the ready, and took a right while he took a left. She didn't bother paying mind to any of the bodies, just verified each time that none were who she was searching for. As she got in further, she started frowning. She heard a couple of shots from Lamar's direction and calculated that some cartel members were still hiding. She entered each hut as well to make sure that the place was indeed empty and safe, but on her side, she found nothing but corpses.

She exited the last hut with worry marking her features before she headed to the last building on her side: a garage. It was closed, but a red metal door on the side looked off the latch, so she got inside carefully. And she froze.

Her blood cooled as she lowered her weapon, a bit in disbelief at what was in front of her. A man was sitting on a chair next to a car with an open hood. He had a white tank top covered in sweat and blood. His blood was dripping down from his nose and eyebrow, and he had been pretty roughed up judging by the bruises on his shaven head. He was conscious, but dizzy and seemed about to pass out and fall to the ground from exhaustion. But then Jungkook stepped in front of him with two cables in his hand she immediately saw that they were connected to the car.

"Let's try again."

She stepped forward but turned mute. Jungkook connected the cable to the man's chest, who trembled and convulsed on the chair for what felt like torture. Because it was.

Jungkook pulled the cables away and immediately asked, "Tell me where they keep their important prisoners. Where? Where on this shitty island do they take them to?!"

The man only grunted, arching his back with his eyes closed as if he was still being shocked. If the scene wasn't enough, the desperation in Jungkook's voice was. She finally moved forward.

"Hey," she said firmly so Jungkook wouldn't be startled.

He turned to her with wide glistening eyes, clothes covered with sweat. For a moment, she could see his fear flash his expression before he calmed down and swallowed.
