Leah woke up thirsty. She didn't immediately recognize where she was and upon seeing the ceiling, she gasped. There was a needle in her arm and she assumed she was back where it all started. Panic instantly flooded her veins and she moved dizzily to scratch and claw at the bandages to get to the needle hiding underneath. They were putting something in her again, she would go under again and—!
A firm hand stopped her.
"Calm down, you're safe."
She looked up through teary eyes and saw Namjoon eyeing her gently. She blinked in recognition after looking around, and only then he withdrew his hand. He sat back down on the chair next to her bed while she observed the room again.
"How long did I sleep?"
"The whole night." Her eyes widened. "In total, I would say maybe fifteen or sixteen hours."
She was in shock. She looked at the IV bag over her and thought it was probably the second or third one.
She sat up and straightened herself on the pillow. Now that it was certain she wasn't back, she could breathe and assess things. She felt calm and rested, although still a bit sleepy. She sighed and closed her eyes upon quickly reviewing her memories from the day before. That had been too much to handle, and maybe Ella was right. She kept pushing herself to do a bunch of things while she hadn't fully recovered yet.
She looked back at Namjoon who was patiently observing her. He was very gentle, as always.
"Do you need anything?"
She breathed in calmly. "Bathroom and food," she admitted.
He got up with a smile and helped her up. She dragged her IV pole to the bathroom while he picked through Ella's desk to find some food. He helped her back onto the bed and passed her the cereal bar he found.
"Ella had to run some errands this morning, she'll be back soon."
She nodded and started eating slowly. "Where's Jungkook?"
He smiled and her cheeks instantly became warm. Before she could justify her question, he answered, "Hopefully at home sleeping a bit." She didn't react because she felt self-conscious about asking anything more. Namjoon continued, "He was a nerve wreck yesterday. Seeing you down made him restless. It was hell to get him to go home and sleep, even when I promised I would stay here."
Her brow furrowed, "But I'm fine..."
Namjoon shook his head, "To him, you're not, you're in the hospital. And there seems to be something else, I'm not sure."
She kept eating quietly, her mind too empty to be able to consider anything properly.
"You know, he's so shy and introverted that sometimes it's easy to forget he can be a force of nature too." He smiled to himself thinking about Jungkook growing up. He probably shouldn't share those things, but he knew Leah was special to him, so he continued. "I never thought I'd see him reacting like this, but of course he would."
She was slightly confused, "Why?"
"Because of you, of course." She raised her eyebrows. "Don't get me wrong, it's not like this has ever happened before. I don't think I've ever seen Jungkook actually invested in someone before."
Her eyes widened, her mind thinking at the speed of light what she could say to refute him.
"I'm sure he has had friends before," she answered quickly. "I mean, that's the whole reason you both are fighting, to get your friends that he calls family."
He smiled gently, completely aware of what she was trying to do. It wasn't his place to force her to speak about it, he had nothing to do with it and he didn't want to make her uncomfortable. So he took her bait.
