When Jungkook arrived at the training site, everyone was disbanding. He was looking for Somsak when Saif and Maxwell saw him.
"There he is," Max said and they neared him.
"We were so eager to fight you," Saif jokingly punched his arm.
"Too bad you were saved by the doctor," Max completed with a scoff.
"Did you guys get checked too?"
"Yeah, every warrior is getting checked today. We went in the morning," Saif answered a bit more seriously.
"Yeah, this is... pretty serious this time," Max commented, scratching his nape.
"What do you mean? Isn't it always?" Jungkook asked, confused.
"Yes, sure, but normally it's just drills or a few of us to prepare for a particular mission," Saif specified, understanding what his best friend meant.
"This is the first time it's for real ever since I became a warrior," Max admitted, looking around. "And I think everyone is accepting this might be it."
"It?"
"The fight. Do or die."
"They even said they'd get Citra involved, it has to be," Saif added, looking back at Aaden and Somsak talking by the armory's entrance.
Jungkook pondered their words, unsure of what to say. Though everyone was being informed they would liberate prisoners, and everyone knew he was searching for his friends, he didn't want to make it about them. For the tribe, it was about being free and no longer at risk. Also, he wasn't allowed to discuss anything he knew about the plan or what was going on, which made it harder to comment on things.
He was about to answer when Somsak called for him. Saif and Max were not surprised, and the latter smacked him on the shoulder teasingly.
"We'll see you later, or tomorrow. I still think I can kick your ass."
"I can kick both your asses, so," Saif said jokingly.
Jungkook laughed and said goodbye, then ran to Somsak. He knew by now that he was impatient and disliked waiting.
Unsurprisingly, Somsak wanted to go over the machete and how to perform every single move he had learned that day, only with the machete in his hand this time. It was hard. It changed the balance and the hand positioning. Rolling over became impossible at first, he almost injured himself. While crouching, he had to keep the balance and the usefulness of the blade all while considering where it was and if it was visible to the enemy. Even sprinting was different when something had to be carried and be ready, in case.
He was sweating profusely when he saw Lamar and Leah talking and walking by the edge of the arena. He could not hear their discussion, but he was glad to see her.
Somsak came back to him bringing a kettlebell and dropped it by his feet. "You said you lifted right?"
"Actually, Namjoon-hyung was the one—"
"So, five kilos should be okay for you, right?"
Jungkook sighed. Was he even listening?
His whole body was trying not to shake. To hold a machete was hard, but to hold a five-kilo kettlebell with an outstretched arm? He thought his arm would fall off.
To be fair, he didn't do the same exercises. Somsak wanted him to feel which muscles were being used so that he could identify where he should be focusing. He never thought that while handling something with his arm, muscles all the way to his lower back and butt were being used, but he got it now. They did strengthening exercises that he just knew would leave him sore for the next day.
