What was supposed to be a happy retreat away from the city life has rapidly turned into the worst day of my life. It happened along the trail, when I saw a few people gathered around a fallen woman, I hesitated, not knowing if I should interfere, until chaos broke loose.

The fallen woman groaned, then reached out and grabbed ahold of one of the hikers' ankle, chomping on it like a fucking chicken drumstick. I gasped, stepping back but tripping over a branch, landing on my ass and hitting my head on the ground. A little out of balance I looked up from the bush I'm in, watching with hazy vision as the hikers all scream.

Blood and body parts fly everywhere, the people fall, whimpering in pain until silence falls. My body trembles, I don't even know what I saw, I just know that five people are now dead, and...

The bodies twitch and move. Low noises emit from them, then slowly, they begin to rise. I scoot back, shrugging off my backpack to lessen the weight as I stand, sticks snapping underneath my feet as the heads turn in my direction, eyes blood red and focused on me-

I run, whimpering as I jump over fallen trees and ignore the sting of thorns scratching my legs. I don't look back, I just keep running and running and running...

A Week Later

"I'm telling you that's what I saw!" I argue, slamming my palms down on the metal table as the police officer stares at me as if I'm crazy. He nods, scribbling down another doodle he thinks I can't see. I scoff, leaning back in the chair as I cross my arms over my chest.

I've only been back in the city a couple of days, it took at least twenty four hours for me to find my way back, then I hopped on a bus and spent a few days at a seedy motel to recover and clean up. After the guilt and fear clung to me like a second skin, I decided to come back to Racoon City and confess...whatever I saw.

"Do you have any evidence that this happened?" The cop asks, scratching his head as I stare at him with an open mouth.

"No, I was kinda busy running for my life to look back and snap a photo of the freaks!" I frustratedly say. Tears forming in my eyes. This is a losing battle, and though it kills me to just let the murderers get away with whatever happened, the police aren't going to do anything. I stand up, my chair squeaking against the floor as I snatch up my bag.

"Forget it, maybe I'm just delusional, right?" I snarkily comment before opening the door and stomping out, pushing my way past a blonde cop who was listening in. Great, the last thing I need is an audience of my apparent breakdown.

"Hey, wait!" The blonde cop calls out, grabbing my shoulder. I freeze, shrugging him off and glaring at him through wet eyes.

"What?" I whisper, hands shaking as I wrap them around myself. The cop, I see his badge says Leon, purses his lips and pulls us to the side as another cop passes. Once we're alone, he begins.

"I believe you." I narrow my eyes, wondering if he's toying with me. "Really, I so. This isn't the first time this has happened, but nobody is doing anything about it. Let me help you, we can work together to figure this out, that's what you want right? Answers?"

I chew on my lip, hating how easy he sees through me. Inevitably, I don't have any other options, so I nod and introduce myself before agreeing to get coffee with him so we can talk.
