"So, you're the fancy scientist who's gonna cure the world or whatever?" My newly assigned bodyguard Leon S. Kennedy drawls, looking my outfit up and down, probably questioning if I really am I scientist from my ripped jeans, black boots and nerdy tee that's paired with a cardigan.

"Yeah, and you must be mister macho man who's gonna parade around your muscles and scare off any unwanted trouble?" I reply sweetly, my tone implying he can go shove his assumptions up his ass. His lips turn up one side of his face in a reluctant smile, as if he's not used to allowing himself a little happiness.

We're being forced together on an unwanted road trip, he's supposed to be taking me to a special lab across the country where I can finally test my theory with the right equipment, but there's people who would kill me for my knowledge, hence the bodyguard bit. I'm determined to find out who Leon really is though, and get to root of why his smile is full of hidden pain.

We spend the first day driving out of the city and behind, only a few bags packed in the back in case of the worst case scenario; a kidnapping. I shudder at the thought, I'm terrible with confrontation. Leon's been quiet since the beginning, one hand on the steering wheel as he occasionally switches the radio, but there's nothing good on. I've tried to ask him questions, get some sort of conversation going, but he shuts me down, giving me simple answers I can't build upon.

"Do you want one?" I ask, already tearing into my emergency stash of candy. Leon looks, wanting to nod, but ends up waving a hand in dismissal. The sunlight is rapidly dying as I stare out of the window, head resting on my hand as I sigh. "Have you always been this distant with people?"

It takes a few minutes until Leon replies. "No, not always."

Eventually I fall asleep, only to wake up hours later still in the car, Leon focused on driving. I look around, seeing we're passing through a small town. All of a sudden my stomach growls, all I've eaten today is a pack of candy and an apple for breakfast. "Can we get something to eat? I'm sure this place has a drive thru around somewhere." I ask. Leon's lips thin, but then he nods and drives around until we find a burger place.

As Leon pulls up to the window, he gestures for me to order. I unbuckle my belt, then begin to order, Leon's breath tickles the side of my face as I lean over him, then once I'm done I look to him, but he shakes his head. I frown, giving him a pointed look, but still he says nothing. Just as the lady begins to finish up the order I cut in, asking for double of my meal.

Leon sighs, shaking his head as I smile like I've won this battle. "You won't be able to eat all of that."

I shrug, "I guess you'll have to help me then."

I'm sure his lips twitch, but he doesn't reply or give me any signs of joy. He pays for the food despite my protests, then we park up under a street light. I set the food out, then begin eating, noticing out of the corner of my eye how Leon keeps looking at his watch. "In a rush to be rid of me?" I joke, feeling a little hurt for some reason.

"We shouldn't stay here long, I don't want anyone to catch up to us." Leon mumbles, then surprisingly plucks a fry from the packet. I grin, passing him a milkshake which he takes. Our fingers touch, sending a jolt of electric through me, and I'm sure Leon feels it to, but he says nothing, the only sign is how he clears his throat.

We eat in near silence, then once done Leon throws the trash into a nearby bin. "So, do you have a hotel room booked or are we-"

"We're driving until we get there. There's a blanket in the back and a travel cushion." He mumbles, rubbing a hand over his jaw as he starts the car up. I shake my head, hand reaching out to grab his arm.

"I can't sleep in here, it'll kill my legs. Please can we get a room somewhere, I'll even pay." I beg, using my best puppy eyes. Leon's already protesting, but I squeeze my hand, jutting out my lip a little. "Please."
