You Know, Just Surviving

AN: Today is the 5th birthday of RE2R, so I thought I'd write an imagine kind of based on one of my favourite scenes from the game; when Leon and Claire reunite at the RPD!

In this imagine, reader takes the place of Claire, and they're already in a relationship. The scene goes a little differently here just to make it more fluffy♡

--------------------------------------------------------

After finding a new way around the wreckage and infected, I make it into the RPD's grounds. The rain does nothing to help my vision as I hesitantly walk through the garden-like area, every shadow looks like one of those flesh eating monsters, but they aren't going to stop me from reaching Leon. We got separated when the truck hit the police car, but I silently vowed that I would find my boyfriend and get the hell out of this city.

A few zombies lurk out of the darkness, so I pull out my gun and aim as best I can, grateful for Leon's insistence of taking me shooting a few months ago, though the skills I gained weren't actually meant to be used. They drop, giving me time to run past them and reach a gate, but when I pull on the bars it doesn't budge. I curse, kicking out at it not that it'll do much good. I glance behind me, wondering how else I'm going to get inside, when suddenly I hear footsteps above.

I squint against the rainfall, holding up a hand above my eyes as I look up to see a figure on the second floor of the station, slowly making its way down the steps. They move too fast to be one of those things, but I don't want to get my hopes up, especially since there's hopefully more cops hiding inside.

"Hello? Leon is that you?" I call out, holding my breath as the figure turns towards my direction and leans over the railing.

"Y/N!" Leon's voice shouts, "Hold on, I'll be right there!"

I can't stop the grin from stretching my lips as I grab at the metal fence separating us, relief overtaking the fear now I know he's alive and okay. I look behind me once more, remembering to be on guard still since we're not exactly alone. Leon rushes down the last few steps, smiling widely as his fingers reach out for me, cupping my cheek as I lean into the cool metal.

"It's so nice to see you, I've been so worried." Leon murmurs. I allow myself to close my eyes briefly as I feel his warm hand caress my skin, I nudge into his touch, then slide a hand through the gap to gently place my hand over his, squeezing as I finally open my eyes again, heart skipping a beat at the loving way he looks at me.

"How're you doing?" I ask, worry lacing my words as I take in his police uniform for the first time. A nervous look crosses his face briefly as his eyes dart away for only a second, not exactly a good sign, but nonetheless he still forces a smile as he links his fingers with mine as best we can.

"OK," he replies, "I mean, yeah, I'm in one piece." He softly adds, leaning forward to rest his forehead against the fence. I nod, letting out a glad breath as I too lean forward and press my forehead to his.

"I don't suppose you could let me in? Do you have the key in one of those fancy pockets of yours?" I smile, earning a chuckle from Leon.

"Right. Yeah." He mumbles, backing away to peel out a key from one of his pockets. He unlocks the gate between us, then as soon as it swings open enough I launch myself forward and wrap my arms around his neck, allowing him to fully embrace me. His chin rests on my shoulder, face buried near my neck as I let my guard down for a second. "How're you doing? I didn't ask." Leon softly says.

I let out a small laugh, shrugging up a shoulder which only brings his face closer to mine. "You know, just suriving." I half joke, trying to make light of the situation. Leon kisses below my ear softly, arms tightening around me. "Is it bad in there?" I whisper, asking the question I've been dreading.

Leon stiffens, swallowing deeply against my skin which tells me everything I need to know. I inhale, nodding more to myself as I plant my feet back on the ground and reach up to cup his jaw, "It's okay, we'll get through this together." I encourage, which seems to perk Leon up as he smiles and stands a little straighter.

"Yeah. We won't lose hope." He murmurs, then takes my hand in his. All of a sudden, behind us an explosion rocks the building, creating a vibrant orange inferno. The fire bell rings, then the undead behind me begin to get up again, and more approach the outside gates, pulling and reaching out until the metal starts to give way.

"Shit, we need to get out of here." I say, grateful that Leon's already tugging us up the stairs and away from the undead. I stop, plucking the key from his hand I run back and lock the gate again then rush back to him, slipping the key back into one of his pockets as he nods proudly.

"Come on, let's get through this, together." Leon affirms, opening the door for me as I quickly walk past him and into the dark corridors of the RPD, with Leon behind me, already gently grabbing my arm to pause me, so he can take the lead and protect me from harm.
