After Hour Surprises

A yawn escapes me as I type at my laptop, the warm temperature of the office too cosy and inviting me to take a nap. It's Friday, and I've only got another hour until I can finally go home to my boyfriend and have two days of relaxing and whatever the hell I want before coming back to this soul sucking place.

"Y/N!" I hear my boss exactly call, her fake enthusiasm earns the looks of my colleagues, all eyes on me as they wait for the juicy gossip they'll no doubt try and weave between this minor interaction. I plant on a polite smile, nodding as I lean out of my cubicle to look at her approaching. Her heels click like the ticking of a clock before she finally stops next to me, her perfume invading my senses. "I need to ask you a super special favour, I've got some files that need fixing and you're the only one capable of the job. Please could you do this for me? I really need you."

It's all lies, but I nod anyway, the small part of me basking in the fact she needs my help and nobody else's. Oh the joy of academic or professional validation. She grins, clapping her hands together, then grabs her phone, nails clicking as she emails them to me. "Great! I've got to leave now since my husband is taking me to Italy for the weekend, but I'll see you on Monday. Bye!"

I blink once. Twice. Then an annoyed sigh works its way from my lips. I spin back to my desk, quickly texting my own boyfriend that I'll be late home tonight, then I get to work. The files take way longer than expected, and by the time I'm almost done with them it's dark and I'm alone in the massive floor. I stretch my arms above my head, flexing my fingers as I smile at the cleaners now leaving, but then the elevator dings and someone comes in.

Curiously I lean back in my chair, head peeking out of my cubicle to see none other than my boyfriend. "Leon?!" I gasp, watching as he comes over and puts himself on my desk, already leaning down to kiss my lips as a bag dangles from his fingers. "What are you doing here?"

Leon looks around, seeing my workplace for maybe the second time ever. "Baby you were supposed to come home hours ago." He almost whines. I let out a small laugh, saving the file I was working on.

"Yeah, I texted you though." I reply, a hint of question in my tone. Did I forget? No, I definitely did message him. To confirm my suspicion Leon nods, smiling down at me.

"Yeah you did, but I missed you and didn't think you'd take this long. It's your weekend now, so why are you still here?" I give him the run down as he lifts the bag up and sets it between us. "Good thing I brought food then." He cheerily says, then he begins to set it all out as I move the stuff on the desk out of the way.

"Thank you," I murmur, then sigh at the laptop, "I've still got two more files to do though." I tell him as I open up a sandwich. Leon shrugs and stands, walking around the office as I work and watch him from the corner of my eye. He sits on people's chairs, spinning around as he noses at their desks, asking questions every now and then.

"Who's this?"

"That's Cassandra, and her adopted kids." I reply, briefly looking up.

Leon hums, then moves onto the next desk. "Cute dog. Do you know its name?"

I nod, feeling a smile tilt my lips. "Yeah, that's David's dog, Pickles."

Leon hums again, then wheels over to me, invading my space as he looks at my own desk. "Where's my picture?" He asks, sounding a little bemused.

"I don't have one," Leon opens his mouth to argue but I smirk at him, patting his cheek, "You're too handsome, I don't want the other office ladies fawning over you." Leon grins, satisfied with my answer.

Only a short time later am I finally done. I childishly flip off my laptop then begin to pack my things as Leon helps me clean up, then he grabs my coat and bag as I stand, wrapping an arm around my middle to guide me to the elevator. "I think you're gonna be sick Monday. Maybe food poisoning or a migrane." He mumbles as he presses the button.

I frown, looking up at him as he helps me slip my coat on. "Huh?"

He nods as if confident about the future. "Yeah definitely," then he grins at me, "come on, I don't think your boss will mind if you have Monday off since you basically put in the hours tonight. I mean even the cleaners have gone home! Let's take Monday for ourselves, maybe go out somewhere?"

I pinch my lips together, but then look at my boss' empty office, envisioning her in Italy. I nod to Leon, adding a fake cough to further the joke. "Yeah you're right, maybe I do need some time off."

Leon chuckles as the elevator dings. He leads me in and pulls me to his chest as the doors close. "The offer still stands if you want to quit this job and become my sweet little housewife?"

I huff, rolling my eyes, but the idea begins to have more appeal. "Whatever Romeo, let's go home."
