"Y/N!" The little girl next door shouts, giving me a toothy grin as she races across the grass and driveway to greet me. I smile, already crouching down to her level as she stops in front of me, panting heavily but already talking again. "I haven't seen you in aaaaggessss!" She groans dramatically, blue eyes widening for emphasis. I smother a laugh, arching a brow at her.
"I'm pretty sure I saw you this morning sweetie." I laugh, then look up as her brother begins making our way to us, holding a heavy looking bucket. I stand, letting the smaller girl take my hand as we meet her brother halfway, then I squat down again, peering into the bucket filled with race cars and small soldiers. "Hey buddy, having fun?" I ask the quieter kid. He nods, sighing as his sister links arms with him and pulls him closer.
"We were bowling with the soldiers and cars since daddy hasn't took us out yet." The girl huffs, rolling her eyes. I nod, peering over their little heads to see said dad jogging across the lawn towards us. My smile grows as Leon reaches us, ruffling both of their hair before he grins at me.
"Hey kiddos, bothering Y/N again?" He muses to them, then he talks to me. "Sorry they cornered you, I keep telling them to let you have a moment of peace." He chuckles, nervously rubbing the back of his neck as I shake my head and wave it off.
"I don't mind, I love their company." I look down at the two children, who are smiling at the praise and knocking into each other. All of a sudden the little girl gasps, eyes widening as she tilts her head back to look up at her dad.
"Y/N should come to dinner with us later! Pleaaaassseee!" She pleads, using those puppy dog eyes I know Leon can never resist. He pinches his lips together, wincing as he glances at me. The little girl holds her breath, still waiting for a reply until Leon's shoulders slump in defeat.
"Sure, but maybe we should ask her first, hmm little missy?" He coos. His eyes find mine in question as the little girl asks if I want to join them for a meal out. I hold out my hands, shaking my head until her little lip wobbles, then even Leon's son begins pleading. I too, finally give in to the children.
"Alright, only if you're sure?" I ask Leon. His daughter nods, grinning as he launches forwards and wraps her arms around me. I let out a small laugh as Leon watches with amusement and a hint of something else.
"Yeah," Leon murmurs, "I'd love to have you there."
Later that same evening the family next door comes to get me ten minutes early. I'm half dressed up nice since I have no idea where we're going, but the way Leon's eyes scan me from head to toe makes me think I made a good outfit choice. We all get into Leon's car, and he puts on the playlist the kids insisted on, which turns out to be a special mix he made for them including Disney songs and classic rock. I grin, listening as the kids sing and wave their arms about as Leon drives, checking me out every so often as well as verbally complimenting me.
"You look beautiful, I would've said it earlier if D/N let me get a word in to you." He deeply says, checking his watch briefly. I let my eyes observe his well fitting button up combined with some jeans and a nice jacket, it's a handsome mix of formal yet casual and I feel a blush creep on my cheeks when he smirks. Before I can apologise or play it off Leon pulls into the restaurant, which isn't fancy but isn't fast food either. "Right, I need you both on your best behaviour tonight since we've got a guest." Leon says, raising his brows as he watches the kids in the rear view mirror. They nod, eager to get out of the car. Leon and I get out first as he heads to his son's side, meanwhile I help and assist his daughter on undoing her seatbelt and opening the child locked door. Leon throws me a thankful nod then we begin walking to the restaurant, with both of my hands linked with the kids. Leon grins at us, holding the door as I lead them in and feel a warmth in my chest.
