AN: I received a request asking for a Demon Slayer AU where Leon is similar to Tanjiro and Reader is like Nezuko. I've obviously changed it so Reader and Leon aren't related at all, and are instead in a relationship before Reader turns into a demon♡

This is more based on E1 of the anime.

Leon POV:

I walk over to the bed, leaning down carefully to press a kiss to my sleeping fiancée's head. She looks so gorgeous in the morning, even when her hair's a mess and her lips are parted, a small snore escaping them. I turn, grabbing my wallet and heading to the store. It's a longer trip than it used to be since we moved further away from town, and it's still dark when I leave, but Y/N enjoys the peace, and as long as she's happy I don't mind where we are. I grab what we need, some basic groceries, then I also pick up an expensive bouquet of her favourite flowers, knowing it'll bring a smile to her face. On the way home I think about what to cook her for breakfast, but as soon as I get out of the car my senses go into overdrive. The front door is open, but there's no Y/N in sight.

"Y/N?" I call out, grabbing the groceries and flowers, then hesitantly I step into the house. I'm greeted with the sight of blood, it smothers the walls and flood, soaking into the rugs. My breathing comes quick as panic consumes me. "Y/N, WHERE ARE YOU?" I urgently shout, rushing into the kitchen, and that's when I see her body, crumpled on the floor, her eyes open and staring at me. A broken hearted sob escapes me, but then I see her chest rise, just the tiniest fraction, but it's enough. I drop everything, ignoring the shatters of the jars as I rush to her, getting to my knees as I scoop her up, determined to take her out of this place, and to the hospital. I hold her to my chest, rationality out of the window as I step back outside, but standing by the car, looking gruff and confident, is a man with dark brown hair and a gun pointed right at me.

"Put the demon down, and get out of the way." The man orders, his voice ringing out in the quiet of the morning. I shake my head, body trembling as I shuffle Y/N in my arms, rearranging her to hold her closer protectively.

"No, she needs help. I need to get her to a-"

"She isn't who you think anymore! That woman is a demon, and any second now she's gonna wake up and tear out your throat!" The man snaps, his jaw locking as he glances away. I shake my head, refusing to believe it, but then Y/N whimpers in my arms, eyes now blinking up at me, but the colour has changed. They're now tinged with a dark pinkish colour, and when she opens her mouth I see her teeth are so sharp. My breath catches, but I don't drop her. I'm not scared, because I love her, and she's mine to protect, even now. "I'm Chris Redfield, a Hashira and killer of demons, I can save your life, but you need to trust me."

"Listen, if you don't move now-" The man begins again more urgently, but it's too late. Y/N senses his aggression somehow, and leaps out of my arms, landing perfectly on her feet as she growls, shoulders hunched up as if she's defending me. The man shoots his gun, but Y/N dodges the bullet, grabbing me and shoving me away as she leaps through the air, nails outstretched towards him. He rushes to her, meeting her halfway as they roll across the ground, fighting for their lives. I scream for Y/N, getting to my feet again then sprinting towards the fight, but they're too fast. Blood rains down from someone, only fuelling my terror, then Chris kicks Y/N far away, getting to his feet as he wipes a stream of blood from his cheek.

I don't think, I just run to my fiancée, pulling her into my arms as she pants, then I wrap all my limbs around her, caging her to me as Chris snatches up his gun and aims it to us as he prowls forwards, eyes conflicted but aim true. His eyes narrow as he watches us, I press Y/N further into my chest, hearing her upset sniffles. She nuzzles into me, now accepting defeat and needing help. Chris tilts his head, stopping in his tracks. "Wha...How are you making her do that?" He asks lightly, as if shocked.

I level my stare at him, hiding my fear and replacing it with pure determination. "I'm not doing anything. Can't you see she's not a danger! My girl isn't a threat, she's just...she's..." I lead off, looking down and finally taking in the situation. She's changed, but yet she's still the same. Physical differences are easy to spot, but the way she protected me, and the way she's hugging me- that's all her. She might be a demon, but she isn't a monster.

Chris lowers his gun, pinching his lips together as he watches, analysing the interaction as if it's new to him. "I can't let you both run off together, not without keeping tabs. There's never been a demon who's protected a human before, but maybe...this could be important. I'll let her live, but she's your responsibility. If I hear about any killings, I'm coming back here and finishing my job." He says with authority. I nod, it's all I can do, then he steps back, not taking his eyes off of us, then finally he disappears down the road, leaving me with Y/N. She's shivering, and daylight is quickly approaching, I scoop her up, kissing her head, and take her back inside as I figure out what the fuck I'm going to do now.

Y/N POV:

A few years later...

I sit in the darkness, waiting for Leon to come back to me. I check my watch, seeing that the sun will fully be gone soon, and I can finally go outside for some air. I sigh, hearing his car approaching the house, then it stops. I can hear Leon's steady heartbeat, and the sound of each individual grocery in the bag. I can also smell the fresh blood he's brought back from the Hashira's provisions. Since those years ago, Chris Redfield has been checking in on us, often keeping me at a distance, but subtly caring for me nonetheless. Thanks to him I receive a monthly batch of human blood from the local hospitals, it keeps me fed and ensures I don't go seeking my own food. I swallow, thirst clawing at me, so I stand and get ready to greet Leon at the door, but really I just need the blood.

The door opens, and before Leon can even close it I'm leaping into his arms, hugging him tightly as he chuckles and squeezes me back with one arm. "Hey, I missed you too." He murmurs, then he pulls back, passing me one of the blood bags. I blush, hating how he handles it all so well, but take it anyway, then turn and walk to the kitchen as he follows. I pour the blood into a cup, mixing it with some water to make it easier to swallow, then down it as fast as I can. Leon watches, lips tugging up. He doesn't shy away from the gore of my life now, instead he embraces it, willing to watch and do what it takes to keep me alive. I wipe the blood, then help him put away the food, but I gasp when I see the small box with a ribbon sitting at the bottom of the bag. I pluck it up, looking to Leon.

"For me?" I ask.

Leon nods, coming to my side to wrap an arm around my waist. "Yeah, I saw it and knew I had to get it for you. Here, open it." He murmurs, kissing my head as I untie the ribbons, revealing a beautiful bracelet inside. I smile, taking it out to observe it, then I pass it to Leon as I hold out my wrist. Carefully he puts it on me, then kisses my slow pulse. "Pretty." He grins.

I smile, then take his hand, leading him to the door. "Can we go for a walk? I feel like I'm suffocating in the house." I sigh, linking Leon's fingers with my own. He nods, opening the door for me, then we head out into the night. It's a gorgeous clear sky, and the moon is at its brightest. I look up, savouring the breeze on my skin and the various fresh scents I can smell. I catch Leon watching me, so gently I nudge into him, teasing as he shrugs and swings our hands. I bask in the moment, but that familiar feeling of guilt and worry settles in. Leon reads me like a book, and stops us.

"You're overthinking again." He states softly. I nod, biting my lip but wincing when I draw blood with my teeth.

"I still can't understand why you stay with me. We'll never have the relationship we dreamed of together, but with someone else you could-" I begin, but Leon gives me a pointed look, then closes the distance between us.

"I know it's not how we planned, but all I want is to be with you. I don't need romantic summer picnics or massive gatherings with friends, I just need you to be happy and for us to be together. Okay?"

"Even if I'm a demon? Even if I'll outlive you?" I whisper as his lips inch closer to mine. He nods, reaching up to cup my cheek, then he kisses me carefully.

"You could be anything and I'd still adore you with everything I've got. As long as my life is spent by your side, I'm happy to die loving you."
