I step out of the bowling alley and into the cooler night, the laughter and chatter of my friends still echoes in my ears as I pull my jacket tighter around me. I walk down the near empty parking lot, feeling the hairs on the back of my neck prickle ominously, the dim glow of the streetlights barely do anything to help me see what- or who- is watching me. I quicken my pace to my car, heart beginning to pound as I glance behind me, seeing nothing but darkness. I tell myself it's nothing, but as soon as I reach my car I hear the distant rumble of an engine behind me. I don't bother looking over at the other car as I fumble for my keys and race to throw myself into the safety of my car. Once in I turn it on, quickly putting my seatbelt on just as headlights shine in the rear view mirror.
Instincts kick in as I begin the drive home, ignoring the speed limits as I rush to get back into a familiar area. As soon as I pull up at the curb outside my house I grab my things and open the car door, only to be greeted by a figure standing on the other side of the street. Panic surges through me as I close the car door and stand my ground, a newfound sense of determination running through my veins. Who does this asshole think he is frightening a young girl like me?
"Don't come any closer, and quit following me you creep!" I call out, edging around the car to get to the front lawn. The creep doesn't listen, instead he prowls towards me as his chuckle fills the night. I toss my bag over my shoulder until it's closer to my front door, then I part my feet, silently getting ready for a fight. If this asshole thinks I'm going to just run inside and give him the enjoyment of my fear he's got another thing coming. I might've been scared before, but now I'm on my territory, and I don't like being threatened. The man stops a short distance from me, he's not someone I know, and he doesn't look like some random mugger either. I don't have time to think as he lunges towards me. Adrenaline surges through me as I quickly dodge his strike, mind already assessing the situation like my boyfriend Leon taught me.
The man grunts as he stumbles, I circle him as he rights himself then lunges again. My years of self-defence lessons with Leon come in handy as I begin to duck and throw a few punches of my own, my knuckles ache with the power I'm putting behind my hits but the man's still standing somehow. The attacker is relentless as his desperation becomes evident, he's quick to throw me off, catching me out as I dodge the wrong way and earn a punch to the mouth. I feel blood trickle down my chin as I purse my lips in annoyance. "You're gonna pay for that one buddy." I mumble, before launching myself at him. We fight on the lawn, until a swift kick to his knee staggers him, giving me the chance to knee him in the face. The man falls backwards as I step back, panting and sweating, and bleeding a little.
"Y/N!" I hear a familiar voice shout. Leon suddenly comes leaping off of his bike, sprinting towards me with concern etched all over his face. I didn't even hear him ride in the street. I give him a small wave, adding a smile for good measure as his eyes widen at the cut on my lip. I swear he growls as his gaze lands on the man sprawled out on the lawn, eyes filled with fury and pure rage. Leon steps forward but I grab his arm, pulling him to me so I can hug him.
"How was work?" I casually ask, nuzzling my face into his chest. A strangled noise escapes him as he arches his brow, looking down at me as if I'm mad.
"You're seriously asking me about work now?" He questions incredulously, lips lifting. I don't have time to answer as the attacker gets up on wobbly legs, already aiming towards us. I shove Leon out of the way, holding my fist out as the attacker runs straight into it. He falls on his ass, groaning in pain as I wince and shake my hand about.
"Tell the rest of your buddies that Kennedy's girl can kick your asses!" I yell, alerting numerous neighbours' dogs bark at my loudness. Leon wraps his arms around me from behind as I writhe and kick to go finish the man off.
"Hey, it's alright, he's down for now." Leon coos in my ear, pulling me towards the house. I stop struggling as Leon sets me on my feet, his hands holding my shoulders as he leans down to meet my gaze. "You did good baby, now go inside so I can take care of this." He orders, voice full of pride for me and simmering rage for the man who's luck just got shittier. I nod, quickly stealing a kiss as I grab my discarded bag and head inside the house, switching on all the lights.
I head to the window, watching as Leon brings his phone to his ear, talking to someone as he kicks the attacker a few times, then crouches down and grabs the guy's collar. I don't hear Leon's threats, but the simmering rage is obvious. Leon throws him down then comes into the house, tentatively he walks towards me, eyes searching for distress. When he sees I'm okay he pulls me into his arms, holding me close as if reassuring himself that I'm alright.
"Are you okay?" He whispers.
I nod, only feeling the come down of the fight. "I'm all good, thanks for stepping in at the end." I murmur, smiling up at Leon as his hand tucks some hair behind my ear. His lips curve into a smile as his eyes take on a seductive look.
"I'm glad you held your own out there," He deeply says, "it was incredibly sexy."
I snort at his words, then reach onto my toes to capture his lips in a deep and passionate kiss, savouring the taste and desperation of him. His arms tighten around me as he picks me up, devouring me wholly until we pull away for air, both of us breathless and flushed.
I don't know who the attacker was, probably someone who's after Leon and figured I'd be a good chess piece to fuck with, but we'll deal with that another day. Right now we're both safe in our home, basking in the thrill of the fight and the love we have for each other.
