chapter 033. deal with my own problem

brook was able to defeat the spider way before [name] could even release herself from the sticky web of the insect. she was impressed to know that the skeleton was a swordsman, and of all things, hid his sword in his cane.
"i tried to tell you on the ship but i couldn't steer all of you away." brook sighed regretfully. perhaps if he was more persuasive, this situation wouldn't have occurred. "i began wandering around here dozens of years ago. i wanted to escape from the demon of the ocean. my rudder was broken and i was carried until here, then suddenly, just like your crew, i've arrived here. thriller bark has called out to me. i wandered on this island, trying to find parts to fix my ship but i was eventually captured, just like your friends."
"what...what did they do?"
"they stole my shadow away." brook answered gloomily and lowered his downcast gaze, "the dancer i have seen in the same room was carried away and a dead body that has been patched up was brought over. i saw the giant waiting for the dancer and just within a minute, his shadow was then amputated away by the giant."
franky's face fell as brook continued, "the dancer lost consciousness and fell to the ground. the shadow that was stolen was then implanted inside the dead body. it's hard to explain but soon after that, what i thought was just a mere corpse, started moving the same way as the dancer!"
[name] said to brook, "so you're saying that the shadow acts as a soul to the dead body?"
brook bobbed his head, "yes, essentially the shadow follows the movement of the soul. the giant has the power to take your shadows away and change the absolute rule. he is gecko moria, one of the shichibukai with the power of kage-kage no mi."
"as long as he has the corpses to us, he can manipulate shadows and create zombies. the problem here is that he's working with a talented surgeon who can build powerful corpses using the body parts of various creatures. as long as dr. hogback is on gecko moria's side, our troubles have no end. his medical skills make it possible for him to go to various cemeteries and revive the bodies of legendary warriors. there are still a huge number of marionettes preserved in his laboratory freezer."
"dr. hogback," robin contemplates. "i didn't realize that after he went missing, the famous physician came here to work for a pirate."
