how did that happen?
well...
luffy didn't want to be a hero.
[name] sighed, crossing her arms, "see, i told you, jinbe."
but...this sure is a complicated situation...jinbe had taken the time to tell the entire story behind fishman island's hatred towards humans over the past few years, all centered around a woman named queen otohime, the woman who was frail and weak yet desired to be equal with humans.
she was assassinated by a human (although she found that kind of odd) and ever since then, all fishmen had hated humans to the very core, and this lay open the reign of dander vecken (that was his name, right?) to start attacking shirahoshi.
it was such a long story that [name] almost fell asleep, while luffy had already snored away in her lap. maybe she missed out a few details, but she didn't really care. she already knew most of the reasons why fishmen hated humans, and this was just another one of them.
jinbe's deep voice carried over them, calm but edged with something sharp, something tired. "think about it, luffy-kun," he said, sitting upright, his hands folded as if holding something fragile, "what will happen if you resort to violence here, on this island? every time fishmen opened their hearts, humans disappointed them. they learned that humans were violent, that humans hated and looked down on them. those wounds turned into walls. arlong believed humans hunted him simply for being born different, and now, if you, the ones who defeated him, fight against hody here, what will they see? even if you win, even if it saves this island, the sight of humans knocking down a fishman standing against them... it will make them believe nothing changes."
a broadcast had played earlier, showing hoody jeans (hoady jones; he looked kind of funny to her) holding the neptune brothers and the king hostage, ready for execution, along with zoro, brook, and usopp in a cage. they got trouble behind her back yet again...
that had them another reason to fight against this hoody guy; saving their crewmates. sanji took a smoke from his cigarette, "but, jinbe...we have to rescue our crew. and if nothing is done, hody will rule the fishman island. we have so many friends on this island. hey, hachi. you've been trying so hard to hide who did that to you but you said a while ago...that hody attacks those fishmen who are sympathetic to humans. did you get beaten by them because you spoke up for us?"
