Finally, I was on the train bringing me back home from Madrid to Barcelona on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, after an intense ten days of travelling and working. There was one hour to go until our arrival, when my phone rang and I immediately picked up, seeing that it was my mum.
"Hola mami" I said.
"Hola Vicky, I'm here with your grandmother, we wanted to know when you will be coming down to Seville?" she asked and I was confused at first, but then it hit me. It was Easter this weekend.

"Mum... I'm... not coming, I have to work..." I sighed.
"Are you serious now?" she asked me incredulously.
"Vicky! Working! On a holiday! No, no, no, are you even planning to go to mass?" I heard my Grandma shout in the background and I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, I am, don't worry, I'm in Barcelona on Saturday and in Girona on Sunday afternoon." I sighed.
"No, I can't leave you all alone. You know what? I'll call up my friend Doña Carmen and come up to Barcelona, I'm sure she'll invite us to celebrate Easter all together" Grandma said and I threw my head back, I knew exactly what she was doing. Doña Carmen was Luis' grandmother and she definitely wanted to check him out, if he was... suitable for her beloved granddaughter.

"But-" I tried to start arguing my way out of this, however I was interrupted.
"No, don't worry, I've wanted to visit you in ages, I'm sure it will work out with Carmen and I can stay at hers. Isn't Barca playing on Saturday? We could go together!" Grandma said a bit too excitedly and I started getting suspicious. She wasn't really one to follow football and now she knew the fixtures?
"Um... ok-" I started.
"Perfect! I'll book a train and will text you my arrival time, would be great if you could come pick me up! See you tomorrow Vicky!" Grandma said and the phone call was ended. Oh shit, she was definitely on an agenda here.

I finally got back home and immediately unpacked, I couldn't live in untidiness. The washing machine was up and running when I stared into my very empty fridge. Next step, grocery shopping then, especially if Grandma was coming around. She was definitely going to scold me about... everything. When I returned from my trip, I ran into Kike who was returning from work.
"Heard you're getting a special visit" he snickered as he followed me into my apartment.
"She's definitely on to something. Out of the blue, she suddenly knows when Barca plays..." I told him and he shot me a surprised and amused face.
"Now look at that..." he chuckled.

"She's staying at Luis' grandma's house. And we're all celebrating Easter together. She definitely wants to set me up or something" I huffed as I was putting away the groceries.
"Cute. But now seriously, why aren't you guys together?" he asked.
"Ew! It would be like me and you being together! Ew, ew, ew!" I replied and he raised his eyebrows.
"Come on, it wouldn't. You've literally known him better only for a few months now and he's kind of like a fairytale prince" my brother stated.
"We're just friends, Kike. Stop it with your nonsense" I told him off and he raised his arms in defeat.
"Whatever you say. I'm going to pack now because I'm a good boy and am celebrating Easter with my family" he teased me and slapped me lightly on my head before disappearing out the door.

Around lunchtime on Thursday, I drove to the train station to pick up Grandma. I was currently parked very illegally in some loading zone, but I was too stingy to pay for the parking garage, so I just prayed that I wouldn't get a ticket. And then she finally appeared, elegant as ever, Rimowa suitcase in her hand - I quickly got out of the car and she smiled brightly when she saw me.
"My Vicky - I missed you so much" she said as she hugged me tightly.
"I missed you too, Grandma. Ok, we kind of have to hurry up, I'm parked here pretty illegally, so let's make it quick" I explained as I took her suitcase and put it into my trunk before quickly sitting down on the driver seat.

"I forgot that it's not a holiday in Catalonia" she said in a highly irritated tone. My grandmother was a huge patriot and was very much against Catalonia's independence - a reason why she highly disapproved of my father's family, especially after what my uncle did. It pained me a bit to not be in touch so much with that side of the family, but my Dad cut most of the contact after 2019.
"Can you put in the address?" I asked her and she obliged. Luis' grandmother apparently lived slightly outside the city on a hill, and when we arrived, my jaw dropped. It was a beautiful villa with a huge garden, overlooking the sea - the view was really spectacular.
