🎶 New Romantics — Taylor Swift 🎶"Good evening!" a very cheerful Pedri greeted me on the eve of the game against Bilbao as I got into his Porsche which was parked across from my apartment building.
"Pablo has been weirdly funny all day and now you too - what's going on?" I asked and Pedri just shrugged.
"I don't know what you're talking about" he replied, but I was still a bit suspicious.
We started driving and got to the stadium, which was filling up quickly with culers. I had my (or better said, Chiara's brother's ex') Barça scarf slung around my shoulders as I was still waiting for one of Pablo's shirts. I had gotten lucky with the Spain one."A win today and we close the gap to Madrid to one point" Pedri explained excitedly for the 47th time this evening, as we were taking our seats. Pablo was starting again and I prayed that he wouldn't get injured today and miss the Clasico next week - the only good thing about his last CL red card was that he would be excluded from Wednesday's squad and had some rest.
Not even 16 minutes into the game, my boyfriend was already booked with a yellow card - the football app I had downloaded on my phone sent me a notification about it, calling him the "Yellow King", what a fantastic nickname. The first half ended 0-0 and to say I was nervous, was an understatement.
"Relax, Xavi will definitely pull out some motivating speech in the changing room now" Pedri joked. Suddenly, a huge roar went through the stadium and I looked around to see what was happening. My eyes stopped at the big screen, where I saw me and Pedri on the Love-Cam. My eyes widened in terror and while everyone was chanting something ununderstandable, I signalled no with my hands and arms, until the camera turned to another couple. I turned around to look at my neighbour who was just grinning stupidly and continued looking at the screen. So weird. After turning to two or three other couples, the camera turned to us again and another roar went through the stadium. My hand and arm movements were even bigger and more agitated, signalling no again, while Pedri seemed to have the most fun he ever had in his life.
"Could you stop laughing and signal him 'No' too?" I asked, a bit exasperated, when the camera had finally turned away from us again. But after being successful with three other couples again, the camera turned to us a third time and I just hid my face with my hands, not knowing what to do anymore. But Pedri pulled out a piece of paper from his trouser's back pocket, unfolded it and held it between us. I leaned forward to read what was written on it."↖️ GAVI GIRLFRIEND"
it read and the loudest cheers went through the stadium, while I threw my head back in laughter.
"Was it Pablo's idea?" I asked laughing, when the camera man had finally given up, apparently having gotten what he wanted.
"Yup, he 'lost a bet' against me and I was allowed to break the news" my boyfriend's best friend said proudly.
Frenkie and Robert, who were also watching along in the box, were giggling and whispering stuff while covering their mouths and I just rolled my eyes.
"He knows me well. It was a fun way to do it" I said and smiled, relief flooding over me that the secret was out. It had been hard to hide, and even though I enjoyed the privacy, I knew that it couldn't last forever. In a way, I was happy that we would now be able to behave like a normal couple, even though we had both agreed on keeping our relationship out of the spotlight as much as possible.
