"Vicky, I'm driving up to Barcelona already tomorrow with my car and all my stuff, you want to ride with me?" Kike asked me on Saturday morning while we were sat at breakfast. "Sounds perfect. I'm not giving you any gas money though" I said and he laughed. "I'm ok with that, I have to take the car anyways. Sweet, can't wait for a siblings roadtrip" he said and we both smiled at each other.
I looked up the route on Maps and a small, but now to me very important detail, popped into my eye. I had an idea and searched the internet for it, before I walked up to my brother who was lounging outside by our pool. "Kikeeee, what do you think about a small detour on our way tomorrow?" I asked and grinned. "No, we're not going to any outlet centres on the way" he said and rolled his eyes. "It's Sunday, they're closed you donkey. I found two tickets for Barca playing Villareal away for a reasonable price on Facebook Marketplace and wanted to ask you if you want to join me. I'll even gift you your ticket." I said and grinned. "Oh, I'm so in. Do I get to meet your lover?" he said excitedly. "I want to surprise him. And... I don't know, he'll be there with the squad and I think they'll travel back straight after the game. But you'll surely meet him sometime now that you also live in the city" I replied.
After getting the ok from my brother, I messaged the guy on Facebook and arranged for us to meet in the city center one hour before the game would start.

Kike and I drove away from home early the next day as we had to have a time buffer if we encountered any traffic jams. We arrived at 3 in the afternoon in Castelló de la Plana and after having lunch, we met the ticket guy and I bought them from him. They were a friend group from Barcelona around our age, but two of them got sick and couldn't come. "You guys big fans?" he asked us. "I am. My sister just fancies the players" Kike answered and I shot him a look. "Haha, classic. Who's your favourite?" the guy asked me. "Gavi. She has posters of him on all her walls" my brother answered again. I slapped my brother's arm hard. "This is NOT true!" I said loudly. "Yeah, would be a bit weird. He's a bit young for you" the guy said, eyeing me up and down. Thanks for nothing. We quickly said goodbye and drove to the stadium. While we were on our way, I quickly texted Pablo, hoping it wouldn't be too late for him to see it.
Vicky 😘 North Stand Row 15 in the middle!! 😘 P.S. The guy next to me is not a secret boyfriend but my brother
As expected, he hadn't answered and shortly after we had taken our seats, the players ran onto the pitch to warm up. Pablo was starting again and I followed all his movements during warm-up. Pedri was injured unfortunately and had to pass on the game today. The game couldn't have started better when Yamal passed a ball to Pablo, who was able to head it into the net. Our stand erupted in cheers and we stood up to clap. Pablo was completely ecstatic, ran towards us fans and kissed the badge on his jersey. Then - he pointed his finger up and to everyone else it may have seemed that he just pointed it to the fan's stand, but I felt his finger land right on my body and also Kike shook me, believing that Pablo had been able to spot me from afar.
The second goal, scored by De Jong followed after only three minutes, but then also Villareal managed to score two goals before the break, making it 2:2. I hoped that we would be able to hit back after the break. But instead, Villareal scored after the teams came back onto the pitch again. Shit, shit, shit, we couldn't lose. Then Ferran was subbed on and immediately made an impact with a - let's say detoured assist from Pablo - he made the ball bounce into a Villareal player, making the score even again. We just needed another kick and we could maybe leave with three points. And indeed we got it when Lewandowski scored in the 71st minute! After that, Villareal had lost its powers and didn't produce much more gameplay. The referee blew the whistle after six minutes of extra time and we stood up to clap for our winning team.
Just a few seconds after the players disappeared into the tunnel, my phone buzzed.
Pablo Páez Gavira Wait don't leave
I showed the phone to Kike and shrugged, I didn't know what Pablo had in mind, but the Barcelona fans were now leaving and we had a hard time coming up with excuses of why we were still in the stands. I let my brother take a thousand pictures of me, just to look occupied, until he turned my phone towards me as I had gotten another message from Pablo.
Pablo Páez Gavira Go downstairs on the main tribune's side, then follow the signs to accreditations A girl in a Barca jersey called Lucia will be there for you, then follow her Gtg, cu
We did as he said and when we had reached the accreditations office, a girl stopped Enrique, she must be Lucia. "Hi, I'm Lucia, are you Enrique, Gavi's friend?" she asked. Ah, very clever Pablito. "Yes, that's me. Gavi's friend. This is just my sister" Kike said proudly and I had to stifle a laugh. "Great. Just a few minutes, Xavi is still with the guys, then I can take you down to the locker room" she said and smiled. Both our eyes fell to the ground. We waited with her and she asked us how the atmosphere on our stand was and we talked a bit about the match, before she got a message that the coach was done with the team now. Already in the corridor, which was leading to the locker room, we found Gavi and Ferran. "Thanks Lucia, Enrique my mate!" Gavi shouted loud enough for all of the staff running around to hear and hugged him. "Yo, man. This is my sister, Vicky" Kike said as some guys were looking at us intruders. "Hi, great goal, congratulations on the win, nice to meet you" I said and kissed him on both cheeks.
Suddenly, Xavi appeared from behind, shaking Gavi and shouting: "Ahhh Gaviiiiiii, what a goal, what a goal!" He looked at Kike first and shook his hand and then he saw me, shit. "The journalist from LA!" he shouted, still in ecstasy from the team's win. "Yeah, um... my... brother is friends with Mr Gavira" I stammered, trying to sound distant and professional. "How great!! How do you guys know each other?" he asked, still smiling. "Mutual friends." "We go to the same barber" they said at the same time. Great. We hadn't seen this one coming. "We go to the same barber where all of our friends go" Gavi tried to straighten it out. Ferran, who was standing behind Xavi looked ready to explode in laughter. Us three must have looked like Ron, Harry and Hermione being questioned in front of McGonagall in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. "Great to see you and have your support" Xavi said and shook our hands and I thought we had escaped his question just fine, but then he said: "Keep up the good work, I read your columns." Shit, that guy didn't just know my face, he knew exactly who I was. And from today on, I was sure that he was keeping an extra eye on me. Gavi and I exchanged a look and we eventually said goodbye and returned to our car, taking on the three-hour drive to Barcelona.
