It was very early when I arrived at the hotel the Barca players stayed at after yesterday's game and sat down in the lobby to wait for my appointment. Suddenly, I saw Fermin running out of the elevator, however he stopped when he saw me and came over to say hi. "Shit, I'm so late. Anyways, hi! And... bye!" he panted and I just laughed, giving him a quick hug before he was off again to take a car to Las Rozas where he would join the U21s. A few minutes later, Pau and Lamine appeared, their suitcases in hands, beaming smiles on their faces.
"Good morning!" Lamine exclaimed as he greeted me. "Hello! And hello to you too, Pau, well played yesterday!" I told the two. "You guys ready?" I asked. "Yes! Let's go, car should be waiting outside" Pau said and walked ahead. There were some fans outside that the boys greeted and autographed for before they also got into the large SUV where I had already taken my place in the middle back seat. They both sat down on each of my sides and I set up my camera before going on the Vanguardia Sports account and preparing everything for going live.
"Ok, great, so... we'll be live, don't forget that. I can't cut anything out..." I reminded them and they nodded. "Ready?" I asked and they both confirmed it with "Yes" and I hit the start button. "Good morning from Vicky Hernandez here at Vanguardia Sports! Today we are accompanying Barca's newest gem Pau Cubarsi on his first day with the senior Spanish national team and we're starting off with their car ride from their hotel in Madrid to the Ciudad del Futbol in Las Rozas. Good morning Pau" I spoke to the camera.
"Good morning La Vanguardia" he said friendly and smiled and waved into the camera. "This morning I'm accompanied by my teammate Lamine over there and... since he's been here before, he'll kind of be my small guide" he added. "Well then, good morning to you too, Lamine" I chuckled and Lamine also greeted the viewers that were growing incredibly fast. "First call-up, how are you feeling? How did you find out?" I asked Pau. "Very excited, very grateful. It was quite funny because we were training on Friday during the press conference and when we finished, I had an appointment with my physio, who was actually the first to congratulate me" he told. "Mum and Dad also happy?" I asked. "Yeah, definitely. And my sister, I'm very glad I have such a great support system back at home" he replied.
"Lamine, how was your first day with the Seleccion, tell us a bit" I asked and saw that his face was a bit unsure, however, he started talking. "Well... I was definitely more nervous than Pau now. And in my place was... Gavi. He was the one showing me around Las Rozas and we shared a room during my first call-up" he said and now I knew why he hesitated at first, but I took it professionally. I remembered Pablo sharing with Yamal as we had called each other every day during that time and sometimes, he also plopped up in the background. "It's great to have one of your friends doing this with you... We're obviously all very connected still from La Masía" Pau chimed in, and I admired his diplomacy, he jumped in perfectly at a time where it would have been awkward for me, whatever I said.
