Christ had risen once again this year (surprise!) and the Easter brunch at Doña Carmen's house was in full swing now. Mateo's family had also come to celebrate with us and with them, Chiara. Her and Mateo looked very happy and they were glowing. She hadn't started to show yet, and their wedding was only a week away now as they wanted to get it done before she'd be all puffed-up with pregnancy.
Luis and I were currently sitting on the canopy swing in the garden, enjoying the sunshine and warmer weather. "Come on, Vicky. You need to talk to him at some point..." he said. "There's just no point, Luis. We keep going in circles, nothing has changed" I sighed. "You've changed" he clapped back. "It's not as easy as that. You know I love him a lot, I find him very attractive..." I mumbled. "'I love him a lot. I find him very attractive... What nonsense" he chuckled and shook his head. "Fine, I'm in love with him, but that's just an urge that will fade away with time..." I said sadly, staring at the bottom of my glass.
"It hasn't faded until now..." he replied. "I'm sure it will" I said, remaining firm. "I'm not." he clapped back again. "Luis, look, I don't mean to pull rank, but... people like us, we need to choose our partners sensibly" I started and he scoffed. "It's a way of life that isn't for everyone, look at you and Caroline. She was from the glitz and glam and you still didn't work out" I said and he looked hurt at the mention of her name. "He's not an orang-utan. He knows how it works" he stated. "He just wants different things, in the end, football and his image with that will always come first" I sighed. "Well, what about when you first dated? You guys were perfectly fine!" he said. "We were young and free. We both went through traumas and have changed... It's difficult the second time around..." I said, deep in thought.
"Why?" he asked, still challenging me. "Because you know what's at stake, it's easier to get it wrong" I replied and looked at him. "I only see an opportunity for you to get it right" he shot back. Never mind everything else, it won't make you happy. Gavi will." he shot back once again. "Oh, Gavi, Gavi, Gavi... You're far more on his side than on mine!" I scoffed annoyedly. "He's the one for you. Just... trust me and give him his chance" he sighed. "No, and if you want to stay on my side, you won't either" I said, now quite angry about his constant nagging on me. No one could leave me alone, everyone had to comment on my love life.
