Mere seconds after I had put my phone away and wanted to make myself something to eat in the kitchen, someone was banging on my door loudly. I groaned loudly as I walked to the door, expecting Pablo and one of his rages again, but instead I was met by my best friend Chiara.
"Oh- hi, what are you-" I started, but she cut me off.
"YOU TOLD PEDRI?!" she shouted and I looked at her very confusedly.
"What?" I asked, but she looked at me furiously.
"YOU WERE TALKING AT THE GAME! HOW COULD YOU BREAK MY TRUST?!" she shouted at me. My brain was working overtime, this must be about the baby.
"Whoa, whoa, Chiara, I didn't tell Pedri anything, I haven't even taken your name in my mouth when talking to him! Why would you think I'd do that?" I asked, grabbing her shoulders lightly, hoping to calm her down a bit.

"You were the only one that knew! Why the hell did Pedri show up at my apartment an hour ago then and ask if the baby is his?!" she asked a bit more calmly, tears starting to form in her eyes. Pablo. It was the only way - he had done this for revenge. But I couldn't tell Chiara that, so I had to get creative.
"Chiara... I don't know... I mean, you told all your and Mateo's families plus friends... It could have just gotten to him and... I mean... you were still intimate two months ago, he could have just done the maths and wanted to ask... What did you tell him?" I said, trying to sound reasonable, but I knew that it could only have been Pablo. Mateo and Chiara had a thousand family members and friends, but there wasn't really much overlap with Pedri or his circle.

Chiara sighed and nodded slowly, maybe she was buying it.
"I mean... it could be... Anyways, I told him that it's none of his business and I'm with Mateo." she replied, trying to look strong, but I could see something more in her eyes.
"Spit it out" I told her and she threw herself around my neck, starting to sob uncontrollably.
"Vicky... But what if! What if it's his! What if... he actually likes me? Am I doing the right thing?" she asked, looking at me with a teary face.

"Chiara... Only you can know this, ultimately it's your choice... But I will tell you this: I was in Madrid yesterday, out with some footballers. Most of them... they're just not cut to be loyal. Look at what happened with Pablo and me... One injury... one bad game... they snap and do what they want. No one should blame you and especially you shouldn't blame yourself for taking a reasonable decision and marrying Mateo" I said calmly, stroking her cheek.
"I feel that... I should have been brave and maybe given Pedri a chance, but... now with a baby... I just can't risk it... And I love Mateo, really! It's just a... different kind of love" she sniffled.
"I know Chiara, I know. I'll always support you no matter what" I said and smiled.
"Thanks Vicky... and sorry for my entrance..." she chuckled. I felt so bad for not telling her the truth about Pablo, but right now just wasn't a good moment with all of her emotions.

"Come on, you want to stay over for dinner?" I asked and she nodded. We whipped up a salad and moved to the table to talk about the wedding preparations and her and Mateo's honeymoon plans. When she was finally gone, I let out a scream. How could Pablo have done this to me? That's just another extra problem loaded on my plate - as if I already didn't have a million ones to worry about. There was no point in texting or calling him, he had me blocked everywhere and I sure wasn't showing up at his house to cause a scene - I had done that often enough. So I just resorted to taking an ugly vase that an old aunt had gifted me for some birthday and threw it on the ground, which helped a bit. After cleaning up the mess, I decided to go to sleep as I had another early start tomorrow.
