🎶 she's all i wanna be — Tate McRae 🎶Ana POV
It was way too fucking early. Chiara and I were standing in front of Irene's parents' house at 7am on Saturday morning. We had all arranged to drive to Valladolid for tomorrow's game against Georgia and were driving with Irene's parents' minivan as also Kike, Balde and... Pedri were joining us. The latter didn't want to miss the opportunity to drool over Chiara for a whole weekend and I was annoyed by them already. It was always Vicky and Chiara getting the pretty boys, while I was left aside. Irene didn't care too much, she was a career girl and men just weren't on her plate, but I longed for someone.
Irene showed up and we loaded our baggage into the trunk. In the meantime, Kike arrived too and did the same. We had to wait for Pedri and Balde another ten minutes before we heard the fancy Porsche roar into the street. He excused himself a million times and blamed Ale having forgotten his deodorant, with which he apparently couldn't live without, so they had to get back to his and fetch it. He immediately claimed the seat next to Chiara and started bombarding her with questions about her week and how she was doing. If I hadn't been jealous, it probably would have been cute.
I leaned my head on the car's window as we started driving and stared at the sky above. I also deserved for once in my life, something good. I wanted to get away of my boring work - my goal was clear now: get Pablo now that Vicky was out of the way, become a WAG and push my socials with that. Travel around the world, spend my boyfriend's money, eat at the best restaurants. And to be honest, Pablo seemed dumb enough to fall for me, I just had to make him believe that Vicky only cared about herself and had basically left him behind. Her showing up to his game on Thursday set back my plans a bit, I needed some luck on my side. Maybe she could just disappear for once and for all now that she was over there.
I stopped caring about her a long time ago. Years ago, Vicky and I had moved to Madrid to attend university together. That's where the problems started: I would meet a guy I liked, he would sooner or later meet my friends, that included Vicky, and the boys would fall head over heels for her and forget about me. The worst thing was, she didn't even seem to notice or care, it was just natural to her. She was the type of girl that had everything: the money, the looks, the charms, the brain. It was incredibly unfair: I would put on jeans and a white t-shirt and look like a construction worker - she would put on jeans and a white t-shirt and look like a million dollars.
Then, the thing with my parents happened and my grades dropped, which inevitably led to me dropping out of uni, while Vicky went on to shine. She just was everybody's golden girl."Earth to Ana!" Irene shouted from the driver's seat.
"Whoa... sorry... I zoned out" I startled.
"Yeah, I figured. We're stopping in ten minutes to get gas if you want to get something to eat." she said and I nodded.
Everyone hopped out at the gas station and while Irene was filling up the tank, the others rushed to the loo, while Ale and I made our way to the shop to look for food."So... I heard you played chess with Pablo" he said to me as we were standing in an aisle. Shit, he had told them.
"Um... yeah, we met by chance" I replied and sent him a smile.
"Didn't know that chess was so popular among girls. I thought that was just a nerdy Vicky thing" he chuckled and I couldn't tell if it was a genuine superficial conversation or if he wanted to catch onto me.
"No, it's relaxing. Believe it or not, not everybody wants to be Vicky" I chuckled, trying to make a joke, but he looked at me straight into my eyes, as if he was trying to read me.
"Believe it or not: not everyone can be." he said and went on to the cashier to pay for his stuff.I gulped and recomposed myself, I needed to be ten times more careful now. I couldn't afford anyone of the group telling Pablo to stay away from me, I needed to make my plan work. We all got back in the car and I participated animatedly in the conversation to not raise any questions. We arrived in Valladolid in the afternoon and checked into the hotel Pedri had chosen. He had insisted on paying for all of us, which was very appropriate with his income anyways and us girls were sharing a room. Stupid Chiara and Irene had insisted on a normal one instead of the suite he wanted to book originally, as they "felt bad enough already that he was paying as it was really not necessary".
