The speed that Chan worked to get everyone on the case to search for the people after me was insane. After we'd informed them of what we'd found out, they all were instantly ready to get to work; they too voiced their desire to protect me as I was one of their own now.
Jisung and Felix had indeed looked into the cctv at the club, but all they saw was what Tbz had seen; a man in a plain suit. After the man had left they were unable to find where he'd gone; like we'd been told, it seemed he disappeared into thin air.
So then Jisung was set to work on looking into what Skz's rival groups had been doing lately, what moves they had been making and whether any of it would be suspicious and specific enough that it could be a targeted thing. To help Jisung narrow down which groups to look into, I gave him a list of groups I'd wronged in the past. We managed to cross-match the groups that appeared on both lists, and though there were still quite a few, it helped to narrow it down a bit.
Of course, I remained in the mansion the whole time, but at least it meant I could stay with Jisung to help him if he needed it. Though it bugged me I wasn't out there with the others, I knew it was for my own safety.
For the next week or so, Chan and Minho requested the help of some of their allies, especially the ones I'd met and become friends with. They too wanted to protect me and rid the threat that was posed towards me. They, along with our members, often did patrols around all of Skz's owned businesses. The threat of burning down assets was not taken lightly. Though nothing had been attacked just yet, and the guys found no suspicious activity, they couldn't help but feel that they were being watched or even sometimes followed. It reminded me of how I'd felt like I was being watched in the cemetery, and I had a feeling these rivals weren't as far as we'd like them to be.
Jisung and I had kind of made some progress with which groups had been more active lately, though some of them had been more difficult to find out about than the others.
"We need to find a way to narrow it down more," Jisung said as we entered the kitchen; we were taking a break from staring at computer screens.
"How?" I sighed. "We've tried multiple ways already."
"Not all of them," Jisung said in thought as he passed me a drink from the fridge. The coldness of the fizzy drink was refreshing. "Hmm... can you remember what you've done to each group we've got narrowed down on the list?"
"Maybe," I said, looking at him curiously. "Why? What you thinking?
"If we know what you did to each group, we can see how serious it was and how much they would've lost from it," Jisung suggested.
"And therefore figuring out who would be the most pissed off?" I said, and he nodded eagerly; he enjoyed trying to figure out solutions to puzzles and such. "Hmm, I'll have to have a think."
"You do that," Jisung said as he now rummaged through the snack cupboard. "Let me know when you've thought of something."
So, whilst Jisung was rummaging through snacks and eating them, I sat at the table silently in thought.
Out of the groups we'd narrowed it down to, I'd stolen from all of them. That much I knew. From what I could remember, it had mostly been money I'd stolen from them for other people or groups. Though, if my memory served me right, it wasn't enough money for them to miss it that much, or even to hold that much of a grudge about it. And all jobs had gone well enough that I hadn't been discovered at all.
Actually, no. Not all jobs had gone well. There was one that I'd almost gotten away with, but someone had seen me when I hadn't been expecting it; it was the only other time I had almost been caught. Then when that person had chased me, something went horribly wrong. It was something that had haunted me for a little while, but I didn't expect it to have much repercussions until now... if my hunch was right about who it was.
