Two days later, the school was closed for the day because the teachers and the principal were at a conference. Tasha, Donald, and Claire had taken a day off to spend the day together, with their children.
The four Davenport children followed their father into the lab. He wanted to show them his new invention.
- "Inventing the wheel? Boring." He started. "Discovering electricity? Snooze. Sliced bread? Lame. But now, Davenport Industries introduces the world's first..." He unveiled his invention that was displayed on two tables further away and facing each other. "Proton Fuser!"
That was lame. Chase thought.
- "You know, for a scientist, you'd think your payoffs would be a bit more proportionate to your buildups." Leo said.
Thank you. The genius boy smiled.
- "Uh, the payoff is that it allows us to see the origins of the universe. This thing fuses subatomic particles, so we can understand how planets form." The scientist explained.
- "Well, we already understand how boredom forms." Bree replied, and her three brothers nodded, in agreement.
- "Haven't you ever wondered where stuff comes from? Galaxies? Stars? Planets?" Donald asked.
- "This stuff, no. Onion rings, yes." Adam replied, happily.
The green hazel-eyed boy chuckled softly.
- "Guys, I have always wanted to build this thing, and now it's a reality." The father said. "It's an important life lesson: If you have a dream, believe in it, 'cause it can happen."
- "Um, Mr. Davenport, isn't it dangerous to tinker with the fabric of the universe?" The youngest davenport questioned.
- "He said 'tinker'." The tall guy giggled.
- "Yes, technically it could destabilize the earth, or open a wormhole into a parallel universe." The scientist explained. "But, I made it and I wanna play with it, so..." He said, excited.
This is very responsible. Chase sassed.
Donald pushed several buttons and the proton fuser created a small blue light. "Prepare to be amazed!"
- "Or gravely injured." The genius boy replied to his siblings.
Adam pushed the younger bionic siblings, behind him to protect them, while Leo hid behind his father. The proton fuser built up energy, but then fizzled out.
- "Once again, big buildup, teeny, tiny payoff." The short boy mocked.
- "Okay, Claire and Maddie are here." Tasha walked in, happily. "The popcorn is popping, and the movie is uploaded. Or downloaded." She frowned. "Whatever, the red thingy is blinking green. Just head upstairs, it's movie time!" She exclaimed.
- "Yes!" The green hazel-eyed boy smiled and walked away, followed by his father and older bionic siblings.
- "I do love a matinée." The Dooley boy replied.
- "Oh, hold it, mister." The Davenport mother stopped him. "No movie for you until you finish your chores. Your room is a mess, and you haven't washed the dishes in days." She explained.
- "But, I've been looking forward to this movie all week." Leo frowned.
- "And I've been looking forward to clean dishes all week." The journalist answered.
- "Really? Well, that's just sad." The short boy said.
Tasha glared at him, before walking away with her son. Suddenly, the proton fuser powered back up.
