The next day, at school, the three smart ones were walking down the stairs when Perry walked in.
- "Morning, germ sacks." She said in a microphone. "I know that you've all been complaining that the technology around here isn't quite..." The microphone made a feedback sound. "Isn't quite..." She hit the microphone to make it work and a high-pitched feedback was heard.
The students covered their ears.
Fuck. Maddie thought as she frowned in pain.
Ow. Chase frowned.
- "State of the art." The principal chuckled. "So, thanks to yours truly, we're getting cutting-edge equipment for the whole school to enjoy. Jojo! Betty! Let's go, ladies. Wheel is like it's hot." The lunch ladies wheeled out a table covered by a sheet. " Behold! Mission Creek High's brand new media center!" She unveiled an old-fashioned TV.
- "I don't think you can call it technology if you have to change the channel with pliers." Leo said.
- "Why do I smell formaldehyde?" The genius boy asked.
- "It smells so bad." The alien girl replied.
- "'Cause I found it on the curb outside the morgue." Perry explained.
- "You don't wanna know what else she found there." The Matthews girl whispered to the younger Davenport brothers.
- "I'm getting all my Christmas presents there, too. Aunt Dotty's gettin' sheets!" The principal chuckled.
- "How is this thing new?" The youngest brother asked.
- "It's new to you, lady-face." Perry replied, before walking away.
The green hazel-eyed boy's jaw dropped as he looked at her, offended.
She is such a bitch. The blue-eyed girl put her hand on his shoulder, in comfort.
- "Don't listen to her." She murmured in Chase's ear. "I like your face." She, gently, kissed his cheek.
Oh, my. The genius boy blushed brightly, before smiling softly at his best friend.
- "Okay, let's fire up the media center!" The principal plugged a cord in and the TV short-circuited, before taking out the power in the building. "Okay, okay...minor setback. For the record, you all look much better in this light."
- "Even in this light, she doesn't look better." Maddie whispered to her best friends.
- "Damn the night vision?" The short boy asked, amused.
- "Yes." The alien girl sighed.

Later, the three smart ones were doing their homework, in the lab.
- "Leo, Mads, read what's on page 47 of your history book." Chase said.
- "I don't have a page 47. I have a 4, a 12, a 32, and what I hope is gum on 98." Leo explained as he looked at his pages.
The geniuses frowned, in disgust.
- "I don't have the pages in between 32 and 54." Maddie replied.
- "This book is so old. Listen to this. Chapter 4, 'Horse-less carriages are taking over the streets of America'." The genius boy read.
- "That is good to know." The alien girl, sarcastically, smiled.
- "Other schools teach on laptops and tablets. We're reading from textbooks that warn us the British are coming." The short boy explained. "We need to do something to bring Mission Creek High to the 21st century."
