Almost two weeks later, the mentors were in the common area when the fifth member of the team walked in.
- "Hey, Leo, where you been?" Chase smiled.
- "I just finished watching a 24-hour horror movie marathon." Leo explained. "I was so scared, I chewed through all my fingernails. But on the bright side, I had a big bowl of popcorn, so they were delightfully tasty."
- "Gross." Maddie frowned.
- "Guys, how is our first Halloween at the academy going to be spooky when all we have is this pathetic little box of Halloween decorations?" Bree asked as she looked in the box. "And, uh, what is this disgusting slime in the trick-or-treat bowl?" She frowned as she held the bowl.
- "Oh, that's not slime. That's last year's pumpkin." Adam took the bowl. "You know, I'm surprised it didn't keep." He sniffed it and gagged.
- "Ew!" The bionic girl exclaimed.
The three youngest mentors pulled the bowl away from him.
- "Hey, guys." Bob walked in.
- "Bob, what are you doing here?" The genius boy asked. "All the other students are out with Dad on a field trip to the Davenport birthplace and museum."
- "Gosh darn it, I can't believe I'm missing that." The blonde boy, sarcastically, replied.
- "Really, Bob?" The Davenport girl raised her eyebrows.
- "Oh, come on. Part of the tour is him re-enacting his birth." The Krane boy explained.
- "You, guys, really don't want to see that." The alien girl said.
- "This kid might be smarter than we thought." The tall guy frowned.
- "Ooh, smoothie." Bob grabbed the bowl with the expired pumpkin and walked away.
- "Maybe not." The eldest followed him out of the room.
- "Later, machine people." Perry walked in with a metal detector. "I'm taking the metal detector to the beach to look for other people's money."
- "So what, you're done going through our wallets?" The middle brother asked.
- "Yep. How do you think I paid for this thing?" Terry held up the metal detector.
- "I told you to lock your rooms and put an alarm." The Matthews girl turned to the siblings.
- "If you need me, I'll be at the island across the way." The head of security said.
- "Okay. Bye." Maddie waved. "Take as long as you want."
- "What island? The deserted one?" Douglas asked as he walked in.
- "Yeah. Care to join me? There's room for two in my inflatable kayak. If you're good, we could play shipwrecked passenger and curious island native." Perry explained.
- "And my mind went dirty." The alien girl sighed.
The green hazel-eyed boy snickered and caressed her back.
- "How about we play shipwrecked passenger and rescue pilot who just keeps flying?" The uncle questioned.
Terry frowned, disappointed.
- "Hey, I've always wondered about that island. Ooh, maybe there are waterfalls." The Davenport girl smiled.
- "And caves." Leo added.
- "And maybe we'll be introduced to cool new species of insects." Chase grinned.
The Matthews girl smiled. He's so cute.
