The sound of nice shoes making their way through the halls weren't uncommon in that building. Considering their uniforms, it wasn't uncommon at all. They wore nice loafers with black slacks. It all tied in with the jackets they wore with a pink arrow shooting through a heart. Many of them wore some variation of that symbol. It had changed so much throughout the years that it truly was whatever their preference was.
This building was much bigger than anyone truly believed. Every time you thought that you knew everything about it, something new would be found. Time has allowed for much change in both the mortal world as well as with their departments. It allowed for many things to happen, opening up the possibilities for so many different things.
In this case, however, it actually offered an opportunity for a second chance on a case that could have so easily been thrown to the wolves.
"Can we go now?" Sarah asked right as the blond flew in. "What took you so long?"
"I had to try one of their drinks," Benny smiled. He was so glad he didn't get intoxicated anymore. He missed it sometimes, but not when he wanted to enjoy the taste. "They have the most amazing cocktails!"
"Did you at least get a shot in?" Obasi asked.
"Of alcohol?"
"No!" He laughed. He couldn't help it. He walked right into that one. "Of your arrow so that you could make their match official."
"Oh yeah," Benny nodded, pulling out some coffee that he had grabbed for Will. "That was the easiest shot I've ever had to do. They were both lined up. I got them right when Melvin came over, and he was right behind Mateo. Mateo looked so terrified of him at first! But he kept arguing with him!"
"He's got guts," Will said, taking a sip of his sugary coffee. "I'm not sure how their relationship is going to start, but I'm sure it will end beautifully."
"I can't believe you two forgot that," Sarah shook her head. "And Benny still had the gall to stop by and get you a drink."
"I got drinks for everyone else, too!" Benny said, holding up a cardboard coaster full of drinks. "They wouldn't let me take the alcohol with, so I figured I'd treat you all with some coffee instead."
"Ooo, mint!" Justin said, grabbing his coffee. He took a giant sip of it before he continued to talk. "Are we going to head over to the II Department now?"
"Yes," Will said. "Now, I just wish we had coffee to share."
"We'll tell them all about your favorite coffee shop later, Will," Obasi rolled his eyes.
"You know," Benny looked at his partner. "No one ever explained what the II stands for." He had heard that the department existed, but Benny had never had to deal with them in his career, so he never thought to look into them.
"That's because you don't want to know," Justin answered. "Why is Melvin's file in that department?! That's the one that usually sends cases straight to us!"
"Not always," Obasi said. "And if you actually visited that department, you would understand. They don't always hold the files of those that they are investigating. They also hold the files of those who they can use to help others understand themselves a little more. I'm sure Melvin has been used to help quite a lot of people, too."
"Okay," Benny stopped walking this time. "Now I need someone to explain what II means." He was confident that they could do well with their case, but Benny didn't exactly like that there was a gap of information.
"Intimacy Integrity," Obasi answered. "They investigate questionable cases to make sure that everything being done is with consent, and they help others understand what they might enjoy without feeling insecure or guilty with themselves."
