It was nice seeing the two of them. They both brought him some laughter, even though his lungs hated him having any kind of enjoyment right then. He hadn't spoken with Divine or Georgina in a little while, too caught up in work and other things. Knowing them, it wasn't surprising that they had found out about him. The two of them were the biggest gossips, and had the numbers of so many people in town. They loved to party too, which helped them learn even more about people that they both loved and hated.
"They go by Devine and Georgina when they're dressed like that," Melvin explained to Mateo. The two of them had left to go get changed, probably already on the phone with some people to let them know. "And when they aren't, they go by Devon and George."
"I was wondering who the blond was," Mateo sat on the bed next to him. "So, they're both just Drag Queens?"
"Yes," Melvin smirked. "What did you think they were?"
"I don't know," the man shrugged. "I wasn't sure, to be honest. Part of me was thinking that they were transgender."
"No," Melvin told him. "Although in broad daylight, I'm sure it can be confusing. When they're in the club, it's easy to see that they're simply Drag Queens trying to put on a show."
They weren't dressed in their usual get up that morning either. That might have been where the confusion lied too. They must have changed into something more comfortable before heading over there. Melvin's place had been their go to spot for keeping some of their make up remover at. Whenever the two of them had a good night that they wanted to talk about, or they simply wanted to wind down from it, they would come over there.
The two of them started a whole gathering at his place. Melvin shouldn't have been surprised, yet he was. He had told Mateo that he didn't care how many people showed up, but he honestly didn't think it would be many. He was feeling sick, but he wasn't on his death bed yet. The only reason it seemed serious was because it could be cancer, but that didn't mean he couldn't try to fight it.
The thought terrified him, though. And laying around all day was just making things worse. Mateo was good company, but he didn't want to put it all on him. He was already doing enough for Melvin.
"Are you sure about this, Mel?" Mateo asked, putting a hand on his. Those gorgeous eyes had been looking so tired and worried lately. Melvin felt guilty for dragging him into his problems. He should have gotten it checked sooner.
He should have tried to keep it hidden longer. Or not gotten so close to this man in the first place. Melvin hated the thought, but he really didn't want to make anyone hurt just because of his own problems. He wasn't worth the heartache.
"It'll be okay, Mateo," Mel grabbed ahold of that soft hand, trying to sit up a little. "Besides, you need a break from taking care of me anyway."
"What" He looked shocked at him. "Why would you say that?"
"You look tired."
"And?" He frowned. "I don't care if I don't get an ounce of sleep for an entire month, Mel. I'm not leaving your side."
Oh, how did they get there? It wasn't too long ago that they both hated each other, and Melvin was teasing him about a kink the man never realized he had. It didn't take long before those flames grew, changing from anger to lust. Melvin had just thought that they were physical, but something happened during the months that they knew each other. Something that Melvin would have never expected.
And hearing that warmed his heart more than any words ever had.
"Hey," Mateo put an arm around him. "Don't cry, Mel. It's going to be okay."
