"Uno!" Sarah placed a card down on the table. "And there's nothing you can do about it!"
"You wanna bet?" Benny got a mischievous smile. Then he put down a reverse card, bringing the flow of the game back to her. "I call your bluff! I don't think you have anymore blues."
"You sneaky son of a biscuit," Sarah slitted her eyes before picking up more cards. "This game sucks."
"At least you don't have thirty cards," Obasi frowned. "I can't even hold all of these!"
"I'm so glad we shuffled four decks together," Velvet giggled. This had to be the best round yet. She had to teach some of these cupids how to play, but they had so much time to spare that it didn't take long for them to get the hang of it.
"If we were all mortal, that would have been the most painful thing to shuffle," Justin shook his head. He remembered playing this as a kid. They never had this many people, or this many cards. He also didn't remember winning much.
"It's not too bad," Will said. "I could have shuffled these decks even when I was mortal. It's a lot like gambling:" He looked over to Sarah. "Never let them know your next move. Or," he gave them all sly smile. "In this case, your last."
"Aww man!" Benny frowned as the brunette put down his last card. "I was hoping you didn't have a blue either!"
"Okay," Velvet pointed her thumb over to him. "We need to play a round without Will. He's cheating or something."
"You can check my sleeves," Will laughed. "I got nothing up there, except for dreams."
"I'm with Velvet," Sarah said. "There's no way you win that many rounds without cheating."
"Will's naturally lucky," Obasi vouched for his old friend. "Until he gambles a little too much."
"The worst thing you could gamble is with your life," Will winked. "Everything else is fine."
"This man is the reason why people gamble their houses away," Sarah shook her head. "I think I need a break from this, before I punch someone."
"Please no fighting in here," Cameron walked into the room. It had been less than a day, but the group of rag tag cupids had somehow managed to make a mess of the place. There were snacks and cards everywhere along with boxes of multiple different board games. Cameron was sure it was Velvets idea to bring out the board game closet. She loved to play with board games, and would jump at a chance when there was a crowd of people around.
They were surprised it took her so long, actually.
"Cameron!" Velvet cheered. Her dark red hair swayed with her as she went up to hug them. "Oh, I'm so glad you're back! You need to play with us so we can all gang up on Will."
"Maybe later," they smiled at her. Even though they were immortal, it was still tiring to do what they did all night. They were still helping out at Melvin's club. It was just a little bit longer until the busy season ended, and all the people out for vacation in sunny Florida came to an end. Cameron was glad that the nightclub had gained some popularity, but they hoped it didn't leave him overworked. There was only so much time that Cameron could spend at that night club before the boss got suspicious.
Himeros might seem like a laid-back boss, and he was to an extent. But when you got on his bad side, it made Hades' worst torture pits seem like sunshine and rainbows.
"Are you still going back to Melvin's club?" Benny asked. His energetic expression calmed after seeing the non-binary cupid slowly walk over to the couch and plop down. "I thought he just hired someone to replace you?"
