"So," Obasi looked over to Justin and Sarah. "What exactly happened with Nox?"
They were celebrating yet another successful mission in the breakroom. It was a little different than all their other celebrations, though. Instead of a big party with a bunch of people, there was just the small group of them that had gotten together from the start of this. Will didn't want to think of it as a goodbye to the cupids from this strange new department that they still had so much to learn about. So, he chalked the lack of a large party to the fact that their boss would probably be mad at him throwing a party every successful mission they had.
Cupids were always supposed to have successful cases. It didn't mean that it actually happened all the time, but they needed to have successful ones more than unsuccessful ones. Will knew that Mr. Eros enjoyed big parties, but he was also very passionate about his work, and making sure that no one was slacking off. They had an important job, after all.
He also didn't want to see Himeros there. Because as much as Will played it cool when they had met the first time, the god was notorious for trying to mess with people, or say things to push others past their comfort zone.
In Will's case, he didn't want a certain case to be brought up.
The same certain case that had haunted him ever since he failed at it many, many years ago.
"He moved to Miami," Justin answered the question, enjoying some wine with them. Velvet had brought the refreshments this time, and red wine was her favorite. "Anton's restraining order got pushed through with all the witnesses that he was able to get."
"How many witnesses did he get?" Benny asked, curious about this too. They had gotten so involved with Mel and Mateo, that they had completely forgotten about the karma that these two were working on in the background.
"Considering how many people go to that café and have been close to Anton," Sarah laughed. "A lot. This has been going on for years. It seemed like half the city turned up to do a witness report on it. They didn't ask them to do it in court though. An investigator wound up just sitting down with them and getting it that way."
"That sounds so interesting," Velvet leaned in. "Why didn't you tell us about it sooner? I would have loved to hear about it!" She loved gossip, especially when it entailed payback on people who weren't the kindest. She honestly couldn't imagine doing a job like these anticupids could.
"Because that just happened," Justin told her. "And you guys were already having to stress over Melvin almost dying, so it just didn't seem like the right time."
"Any good news would have been great back then," Cameron told him. It still pained them to think that they could have actually lost Melvin. Cameron didn't think they had been more stressed out in their life.
"Well, we weren't entirely sure if it was going to be good news or not," Sarah told them. "Courts can take a while, and then there was the chance that Nox wouldn't listen to court documents and would still try and stalk Anton. If he did that, then it could lead to harm, so a lot of it we had to keep quiet about until we knew for sure that he was going to adhere to it."
Trying to keep people away from their victims was the most difficult thing about their jobs. Sarah had dealt with plenty, and she was glad that Nox wasn't anywhere near the worst ones that she had in the past.
"I'm so glad it worked out!" Benny cheered, his blond hair bouncing as he bounced on the couch. "Now there's nothing stopping Anton and Lucas from staying together. And there's nothing stopping Melvin and Mateo from being away from each other either!"
"This really is something to celebrate," Velvet toasted again. "To a successful mission!"
It was amazing seeing just what a few months could do for the two couples. Anton and Lucas had found a comfortable balance around each other, and were planning on visiting their families together soon here. They both seemed so much happier with each other, and Benny was happy to see the man with a relaxed expression on his face more times than not.
