This was just horrible. After all the things they had gone through, and all the work they put into this, now they had do deal with this?
"He better not die!" Benny frowned. "We just went through all this effort just to try and get him to get his health checked!"
"We're really close to getting them to confess, too," Velvet agreed, watching the screen. "Look at the way Mateo looks at him. He's so in love, it breaks my heart to watch."
They couldn't just fast forward to the good part, even though they really wished they could. It would be great if they could just get straight to the happy ending. Will had been looking forward to this being yet another successful case. He could see the love that both of them had for each other, even outside of physical wants and lust. That connection they both shared from the moment they met each other had taken a lot of strange twists and turns, yet somehow managed to grow stronger the longer they were together.
Mateo was the only one who had somehow convinced Melvin to actually go and get help in the first place. It was a shame that it had to turn out this way. He was sure that Mateo would have been happy to see that he had scheduled a doctor's appointment and was planning on going. Instead, he was forced to undergo so much stress that it caused his symptoms to worsen into this.
"I wish I had gone to that club tonight," Cameron sighed. Their pink eyes looked gloomily onto the screen. "I could have tried to stop all the chaos that happened."
"I was looking forward to laughing about the Dungeon Daddy dude," Benny said, trying to lighten up the mood some. It was getting grim. "There's still a good chance that he just has bronchitis, right?"
"When Mateo wasn't around, he would smoke a pack a day," Velvet told him. "As much as I'm hoping it is, there's a good chance that it's a lot worse."
Things really did seem grim right then. They specialized in love, not health. It was beyond their expertise, yet each and every cupid there wished they could do something to help. There was too many hear breaks in the world. The last thing they needed was to add another one to that list.
"It wasn't just what happened at the club, though," Justin finally spoke. He had been quiet, hoping that he would hear some good news out of that screen. "It all started when his dad called him up."
"His father always knew how to make things dramatic," Cameron rolled their eyes. "I hope he never tries to talk to him again."
"I don't think he will," Will said. "Melvin has a way of convincing people to stay away from him. As far as I know, Mateo is the only one impervious to that."
Melvin was a fun person to get to know, even if they were simply watching a screen most of the time. He had many quirks that you wouldn't expect. Cameron had taught him more about the man while they waited for the days to go by in the past. Will understood the pain the man went through. Some of it on a personal level.
They all sat in silence for a moment, waiting for something to happen. It seemed like time flew by most of the time, until something bad happened. Now, they were at a snail's pace.
"I'm going to take care of something," Cameron stood up. They didn't look at anyone as they started to head towards the door. "I'll be back."
"Where are you going?" Velvet asked. "If you go to visit him, you're going to get in trouble, you know!"
"I'm not going down there," Cameron answered. They would give Melvin some privacy, surrounded by the ones that loved him. Melvin needed that, because he never seemed to feel like he could be loved. Cameron just wished they could convince him that he wasn't as bad of a person as he thought. His father was spitting poison into him.
