Of course, he wasn't going to give up. Especially not now. He had gone through a lot. There were plenty of instances where he could have given up on life so many times before. There seemed to be a common theme of people always popping into his life right when he was close to not caring though. Melvin had made sure to keep this from Anton or anyone else in his family because he didn't want anyone worrying about him.
It seems like he got too distracted with what was going on with Mateo to realize that the man could probably hear him coughing like crazy in the bathroom.
"Are you sure you're going to be okay by yourself?" Those green eyes looked so worried about him ever since the day before. He had tried to baby him the entire night. It was cute, even if it was annoying at first.
"I'm not as sick as you think," Melvin assured him. "Go and take care of your house. I'll see you soon."
"You aren't going to work today, are you?" He asked. He had already gotten dressed and ready to go, yet he still paused and waited for Melvin's answer.
"I might have to," he answered. "Just to make sure that everything's in order."
"But Mel," he frowned. "You really have to see a doctor about that. And it could be something that could spread to others."
"It's not going to be," he sighed. "Go. I'll be home when you get back."
"You better be," Mateo smirked, finally heading out the door. It was nice having him around. As much as Melvin enjoyed living by himself, having someone to share a bed with was a nice change that he wasn't expecting. Mateo was a great cuddler, surprisingly.
But Melvin would have to say, as much as it was nice to have him here;
It was great to watch him go.
And he meant that in the best way possible.
Melvin had gotten dressed in something comfortable, leaving his neck bare for the time being. For some reason, he felt like it would be better to give it some air. He just hoped that it wasn't his gut telling him that something bad with his throat was going to happen.
He didn't want to, but he was going to have to do something. If not, then Mateo might just force him to a hospital. The thought of that was slightly funny to think about. Mateo didn't seem like the caring type, but he had cared a lot for him. It was strange to see just how much he had changed over the short time that Melvin had known him.
"Please don't give up," His green eyes pleaded with him. "I need you."
It had been a long time since someone said they needed him. Melvin had been the person who helped quite a few, but hardly anyone had told him that they needed him. He was just a nice commodity to have in everyone else's life. But the man who had gone from hating him to love was one of the first to say that he needed him.
Melvin sighed. This had to be the strangest relationship he had been in.
The doorbell rang right on time. It was something that Melvin had planned for when Mateo had left. He didn't exactly want him to meet one of the craziest members of his family just yet. And it was better to talk to him alone about this.
"Your place is so much more different than Anton's," Gabe walked inside, looking over the tiny living room. "You both truly remind me of how individuals with opposite styles of living can still be as close as can be. It's more common than you would think, although I'm not sure how you two would fair living together."
"I don't think him and I have opposite styles of living," Melvin rolled his eyes, plopping down on his couch. "We both keep clean."
"Well, that's true," Gabe sat down on the recliner. "But there are many differences. His place is more open and has a lot more lights, and yours is a bit cluttered with plants everywhere."
