There was too much that just happened. Matteo couldn't even process it all. Like, he left to go and take care of the beach house, came back to find Melvin pissed talking to someone over the phone. Then they come here and its utter chaos.
Then his heart gets ripped out of his chest as he sees Melvin drop faster than a missile, only it's not to cause destruction on others. Mateo didn't know what happened, there were so many people around them that it was hard to see. He originally was trying to get the bouncers for Melvin since he had been trying to reign in his club from the moment he stepped in. Mateo had been trying to find somewhere that he could help.
He guessed it was just going to be with his own fist instead of running around. Mateo had thrown a punch at the guy as soon as he saw Melvin fall. It wasn't the first time that he got into a fight, although he typically tried to stay out of it. Mateo knew how to throw a punch. He went in just at the right time. He got him right in the face with enough force for the drunk bastard to fall on the ground. Mateo used all his strength on the asshole. He was pissed, but he also needed to get this man away from Melvin.
Surprisingly, that was the time that the bouncers finally came, hearing all the commotion that had happened. They kept the guy down while Mateo immediately went towards Melvin.
"Alex!" Mateo yelled for the bartender. "Did you call the cops?"
"They're on their way," she told him, the phone still in her hand. She had gotten over to the crowd, trying to clear it. "Is he going to be okay?"
"Tell them we need an ambulance," Mateo said, pulling Melvin onto his lap. His breathing shallow, coughing with every breath in that he had. He wasn't the man Melvin always saw. He wasn't the strong, silent guy that could make you cower with just a harsh stare. Right then he was sick, and weak. He was paler than normal, and it was starting to freak him the hell out.
He knew Melvin wasn't feeling well. He could see that he wasn't doing good when he came back to that house. Melvin was already breathing heavily at home. Mateo had seen him calm down and it got normal while they were driving here. But something told him to try and convince him to not come in tonight. He wished he listened to his intuition. At the same time, he knew that he wouldn't be able to convince him. That was why he opted to just try and come with him. A part of him had hoped that he could be there if he really needed him.
Now he was hoping that the man wasn't going to die in his arms in the middle of the club.
Melvin wasn't talking. He could barely breath until the paramedics came and put him on oxygen. They tried to talk to him and ask him questions, but he wasn't answering. Instead, he passed out, unable to open his eyes any longer. Mateo remembered his dark blue gaze meeting his just one last time before they closed for the rest of that night.
Mateo wasn't good at figuring out what to do in these scenarios. He was the best when it came to work and thinking on his feet. But something that had someone's life on the line was beyond his level of expertise. His heart was racing out of his chest. The only thing he could do was stay close to him. Mateo rode in the ambulance with him, letting the workers in the club take care of that. They would figure something out. He knew that they were definitely going to detain the guy who started this. Mateo wished only the worst for the bastard.
The hospital was the worst to be at. It was uncomfortable, and time somehow moved incredibly slow, even when there was something so serious going on. He swore he was going to lose his mind. That was the time when he finally figured out what he should do.
"Mateo," Anton answered the phone. "What hospital are you at?"
"How did you know I was at a hospital?" He asked, taken aback. He was calling him, not the other way around.
