A/N: its short, but its leading up to a lot lol
"You're insane," Nico said as he watched the clock in his room hit 4am.
"I never once claimed not to be," Rachel said, looking dead serious.
Nico ran a hand over his face, trying to ignore the 12 people starting at him through the camera on his phone. "No, like clinically. Like, lock you up, level of insane. Like, should I call Arkham and reserve you a room, type of insane."
Piper rolled her eyes. "You're over reacting."
"And you're talking about the UN! Do you hear how crazy that sounds?!" He whisper yelled, hoping not to wake any of his siblings up (he knew the odds of them actually being asleep were slim, but he was optimist).
"Lex Luthor is the Secretary-General of the UN and he went on a stupid talk show purely to talk shit about us and called us stupid kids," Piper said.
Nico rolled his eyes. "So your solution is to basically dare him to let us speak at a televised plenary meeting? That's insane. That is the stupidest-"
"I think it's a good idea," Reyna said, interrupting him.
Nico's jaw dropped. "What?!"
Reyna rolled her eyes at his aghast expression. "They insinuated that we were being idiotic children who did not understand the dangers that came with the job. We all know that it is not true, but we need to show that to everyone else. You have served in New Rome's senate for over two years now, so you know how this stuff works. They will expect you to be a mumbling mess, but you can prove them all wrong."
Nico ran his hands through his hair, pulling at the ends in stress. "This is completely different than being the Ambassador of Pluto. First of all, I barely show up to senate meeting. If anything Hazel is the one who should be doing this since she has been my proxy for-"
"Hell no," Hazel stated. "It's not gonna happen. You're the leader, so it's on you."
Nico ignored her statement, but still moved on. "Secondly, this isn't a vote. It's not like I'm debating whether or not to implement the D.A.R.E. Program at New Rome schools; this would be giving a speech in front of not only the representatives for every country and committee that's in the UN, but also on live TV."
"You have spoken in front of the Justice League multiple times in defense of our actions," Annabeth said. "This is basically the exact same thing."
Nico wanted to slam his head into the wall. "It really isn't. With the League, there is a margin of error. If I mess up in front of them, I have a net to catch me called Batman. If we somehow managed to pull this off, there would be no room for slip ups. Even if I hesitated for one second, people could see it as me lying or hiding something."
Percy groaned in annoyance. "Nico, at all of those League hearings, did you ever slip up?"
"What?"
"Did you ever actually have to depend on Bruce?"
Nico's eyebrows furrowed. "No?"
"Exactly. You never needed the safety net. You managed to get us an alliance with the Justice League at 15. I might not be super plugged into the outside world, but I know that that is impressive," Percy stated.
"Not to mention the fact that you held a seat in the senate of New Rome since you were 13," Jason added. "That doesn't just happen. Your role was honorary at first, but you earned your place."
Nico sighed. "I only had it because Reyna liked me."
Reyna shrugged. "Eh. I mean, at first, I kinda didn't like you."
"What?" Nico gasped, though he already knew that it was true.
"I mean, Romans didn't really trust children of Pluto up until that point. We thought it was bad luck to have you around. I had only given you your title at first because you had claimed to be on a mission for a god and it would have been signing a death wish not to. I gave you a spot on the senate because I learned to trust your judgment."
Nico leaned back against his headboard. "Still, this is different. The Senate at Camp Jupiter is nothing compared to the fucking United Nations."
Hazel shrugged. "I mean, you're not wrong, but it's kinda the closest you can get without actually working for them or the actual government. If you go, they'll be expecting someone with no experience."
"I would have to learn basically all of their rules to even stand a chance at not disgracing us," Nico muttered, pressing his palms into his eyes. This conversation was going to give him a migraine, he could feel it. "And that's just assuming that they even let us in. The UN doesn't just let anyone show up and speak. There is a whole procedure-"
"Let me handle that," Rachel said, cracking her knuckled. "I already have a plan to basically force Lex into inviting you to speak."
Nico let our a sigh. "What would I even say? It's not like I can tell them that we are demigods that have been training for literally years. The Gods will smite me on the spot if I say someone wrong on live television. Plus, we don't even have a name for the team yet."
"I'll go to Olympus," Annabeth said, a fire in her eyes. "I will get them to set the parameters on what we can and cannot say about what we are doing."
"That sounds like a great way to get smote," Nico mumbled.
Annabeth rolled her eyes. "I designed Olympus and have fought in two wars for them. Trust me, I'm not getting smote."
"Well, what about the team name?" Nico asked, grasping at straws.
"I'll handle that too," Annabeth said, sounding confident.
Nico closed his eyes, wishing that he was literarily anywhere else, before he sighed and said, "Fine. If you can get me parameters from the gods, an invite from Lex Luthor and the President of the UN General Assembly, a team name, and an actual guideline for what I would even say, then I'll do it."
The team smirked.
"Deal," Rachel said and she began typing on her computer.
Nico cursed internally as he heard Annabeth and Rachel begin rattling off assignments for each people on the team and setting up a time line.
How the fuck did I end up here? He thought to himself. I was born in the 30s and now I'm a fucking vigilante fighting the UN?!
