"Members of the General Assembly," Nico called into the large room as he confidently walked into the room, ignoring the feeling of panic that seemed to be stewing deep within his bones. "I have a grievance to bring before you."
Despite the fact that Nico knew Lex wasn't there for the meeting, the Deputy Secretary-General filling in for him, he was still hesitant to look towards the seat he usually occupied.
"Ghost King," the Deputy Secretary General said, not looking happy at all about his presence. "You cannot come in here with out an invitation-"
"He was invited," Troia said, gesturing for the security, who had their guns trained on Nico and the other demigods, to put away their weapons. "I allowed Demosthenes to be here."
The Deputy SG made a sound of annoyance. "That may be, but only Secretary General Luthor the authority to allow-"
"To allow the victimization of my people by his own command," Nico finished, not stepping down. "He has used his personal resources along with the resources of known terrorists to not only target, but attack my people."
The room began to buzz with whispers of scandal and disbelief.
"You can't come in here and make preposterous statements. This is not the time or place to-" the American representative said, face stern.
Nico looked back at the General Assembly, choosing to ignore the cameras that he knew were live streaming every minute of this to the world. "When the UN was founded, it was committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, and promoting social progress, better living standards, and human rights. That is what you are meant to do. It is what every person in this room is supposed to be here for. You are here because you want the world to be better than it is, and yet you have done nothing to stop a tyrant from threatening the lives of thousands."
The Deputy Secretary General quieted the whispering assembly with an indigent look. "That is a very serious allegation."
"And it is an even more serious threat to my people," Nico spit back, unashamed of the venom in his voice. "I made it clear the last time that I spoke before this assembly that not only were my people not a threat to any nation, but that we were also not to be trifled with. Myself and my teammates chose to make ourselves known to you because we wanted to help the citizens of your nations that you were failing to protect. You have all sat idly by as Luthor placed restriction after restriction on the League of Justice, making it so they can't even give humanitarian aid after a natural disaster— much less do anything about the thousands of children that are being taken across the world. You allowed Luthor to feed you fear until you became content to watch the world burn."
"The number of kidnappings is down-" the French representative began to say.
"Because of my team," Nico said, staring them down. "The numbers are down because my team refused to let others suffer and die when there was something we could do. We put ourselves in harms way because you wouldn't allow the people that were meant to help, do anything without breaking their charter. We risked our lives so that children all around the world wouldn't be killed or enslaved. We were willing to die for the cause that you claim to serve: Peace, Justice, Human Rights, Respect, Tolerance, and Solidarity.
"Despite your failure to do anything to protect the people of this world, we were willing to be civil. We were willing to not rock the boat any more than needed because we believed that this assembly could be more than just pawns in one man's political schemes," Nico said before turning so he was facing both the cameras and the rest of the assembly. "But then Luthor took it too far."
Jason pulled out a USB stick and handed it off to Troia who plugged it into her computer, forwarding the data not only to the screens of everyone else in the room, but to the news channels that were streaming the meeting.
"Luthor partnered himself with a known criminal organization in order to target not only my team, but my people— and that is where I draw the line," Nico said, his voice cold, as the members of the assembly looked at there screens with poorly masked shock. "To come after me is one thing, but to attack my family and civilian children who cannot even defend themselves is another."
"Where did this data come from?" the Italian representative's translation said.
"After being freed from the facility Luthor imprisoned us in, my team decided that enough was enough. We were going to be strategic, gaining evidence slowly to build a case against him— but then he came after my people. In the span of a day, he had kidnapped 97 children," Nico said, glancing at Thalia who gave him a nod to tell him that the others' missions were going according to plan. "So, as I speak, those children are being liberated and the bases they were held in are being secured."
That caused a commotion as whispers broke out, but Nico lifted his hand and they silenced.
"We will not sit by and allow the same torture that we went through by the hands of Lex Luthor be done to children," Nico said, nodded to Hazel who began muttering into her comm line, signaling Oracle to begin streaming the body cam footage his team had already gotten of the raid (she blurred the faces of all the victims, obvi). "These children are under our protection and we will not allow anyone, no matter who that are, to put them in harms way."
The Deputy Secretary General looked torn between attempting to maintain order and shock as he looked at the screen in front of him. "Even if this is true, attacking these bases is an act of Vigilanteism. You have no warrent and-"
Nico looked to his allies in the General Assembly and gave a nod, his chest tightening at the action. He was passing the point of no return.
"Article 51 of the UN charter states that 'The right of individual or collective self-defence can be exercised in the event of an "armed attack" against a Member of the United Nations.' This means that a member of the UN can attack so long as they have been attacked first," Troia said, standing up as she looked to the other members of the Assembly. "And so, Themyscira is assisting in the raid."
"As is Atlantis," Garth said, also standing.
Kaldur stood as well. "As is the Justice League."
"My people are more than just some humans from a place you have never heard of. We, as a people, may not be in the UN, but that does not mean that attacking us isn't attacking a protected people." Nico couldn't help the smirk on his face as he continued. "I would like to introduce my cousin Pericles, also known as Riptide. He is Atlantean Royalty."
Percy gave a nod to Garth as the man bowed.
"And my cousins, Telesilla, known as Thunder, and Julius, known as Storm," Nico said as Thalia and Jason stepped forward. "Are siblings of Diana and Troia of Themyscira, and therefore royalty of the nation."
Hazel stepped up next to Nico as the room filled with more sounds of surprise.
"And my sister, Hortensia, also known as Gem," Nico said, steeling himself before he continued. As he opened his mouth to finish what he started, a shiver ran through him. He looked to his sister and cousins, because there was no fucking way that he was right about what was about to happen, but he saw matching looks of shock on their faces before the doors to the General Assembly room burst open, causing everyone in the room to look at the figures walked in.
"Holy shit," Nico whispered.
