"Let's talk about this upcoming weekend. It's regionals. Everybody knows how important that is. This weekend we are going to Star Power. We all know that it's one of the toughest competitions out there. Maddie, new solo. Brooke, new solo. Chloe, new solo. Eva, you are doing the solo that you didn't get to compete in two weeks ago. I'm also going to do a duet with Kenzie and Eva" Abby says. Kenzie and I look at each other and I give her a side hug."The age categories here are a little different, so we need to make sure your dance reflects you as a dancer now. Not at the beginning of the season. Maddie, you are in the 8 and under division. Chloe and Eva, you two are in the 9-11 age division. And Brooke, you will remain in the teen division. We are doing a new group routine this weekend and everybody is in it. It is called 'Where Have All The Children Gone?'. This is a routine about children who have gone missing. You've all seen the children's faces on the milk cartons. It's contemporary, it's mature, and it is very dark. You have to be great actresses to pull it off and they're all in white like they are angels. No discrepancies. No opinions," Abby explains, "Moms, you are dismissed. Girls, start stretching."
Abby starts to teach us the group dance and it's such a unique dance.
____________
Eva's Interview"Creepy numbers are my favorite to perform because I get to act in them. And I like the music." I say with a smile.
____________During the dance, all of us pretend to kill ourselves in some way. Except Brooke because she's like the 'survivor'. Nia chokes herself, Paige jumps off the stage, Chloe stabs herself, Maddie pretends to slit her wrist, and I pretend to take a bunch of pills at once even though there isn't anything in my hands.
"Come in close, listen to me. You're dancing, you're doing stuff, you're trying to listen to the words. You're not interpreting the story correctly and this is very serious because maybe people in the audience have had a child that's gone missing. You are gonna touch somebody's heart. This has to be a very serious routine and right now, you are just doing the steps. We need to get past that and we need to perform. Does everyone understand?" Abby asks and we all nod.
____________
Group RehearsalWe keep working on the number until Holly comes in and asks to speak to Abby so Gia keeps teaching us the number.
____________
Solo Rehearsal"Alright Eva, you know your routine already, so we are just gonna do some finishing touches and critiques, okay?" Abby says.
I run through my solo a few times and Abby gives me some corrections that I immediately take and start doing. I really love my solo and I hope I don't hurt myself again!
_____________
Duet Rehearsal"Good morning girls," Abby says as she walks into the Dancer's Den, "I'm gonna start with Kenzie and Eva's duet."
Kenzie and I follow her into the room.
"Alright Eva, this number might seem a little babyish, but it's gonna be a fun acro so I think you'll like it," Abby tells me.
Abby starts to teach us the duet and it's kinda simple, but we are gonna be in the eight and under category, so we will probably win.
