"Come on girls, let's go!" Abby yells and we run in, "Congratulations on a successful dance concert. All your performances were amazing. You showed the entire city why we are ranked nationally as one of the top dance studios. We are on the road to nationals. We are going to California for the iHollywood competition."
"At the bottom, Paige. You couldn't do too much with the boot. Next, Brooke. Hip hop is not really your thing. Next, Kenzie. You looked just like the big girls. I thought it was a bit over your head. Next, Nia. You received the award for the most improved dancer. Next, Chloe. You did great in the recital. Next, Eva. You played the lead in the Trapped dance very well and you won the award first the most versatile dancer. Great job. On top of the pyramid, Maddie. You won the award in your age division."
"Kendall, you are not on the pyramid yet. I'm giving you a chance to prove yourself this weekend. You will be doing a lyrical duet with Eva," Abby says and Kendall and I hug each other. Mackenzie, you have a solo. Nia, you have a solo. Eva, you have a solo. Now, I have one more solo to give out. Chloe, you have a solo this weekend," Abby says.
"I also have a trio. It's a ballet trio with my three girls who are strongest in ballet. Maddie, Chloe, and Eva," Abby says, "Everyone is in the group dance. Kendall, I am inviting you to travel with us to participate in the group number."
We clap for Kendall
____________
Group RehearsalAbby makes us do pushups for no reason. I hate pushups.
"One, two, three, four, five," Abby counts. Then we start to learn the group. This is a creepy dark piece, so I'm excited. The guy who made the Where Have All The Children Gone also made this song.
"This is quick and quick and step, together," Abby says.
We are all mental patients in this dance. It's really cool.
These random people walk in. It's a mom and a daughter I think.
"Hello," The woman says.
"Hi," The girl, who looks my age, says.
They are mother and daughter. The mom's name is Kaya and the daughter's name is Nickaya.
Abby makes us all sit against the wall so she can check Nickaya out.
____________"I wonder if that girl's coming in today," I say when all of us are sitting in the Dancers' Den.
"If I had to make a guess, I'd say she is," Jill says.
Then they walk into the room. It gets a little tense when they come in.
"What do you want the girls to call you?" Jill asks Nickaya.
"My nickname is Nini," Nickaya says.
"I'll call you Laquifa now," Kendall says. We all laugh.
"Laquifa! What?" All eight of us girls say.
