ANALYSIS

Plot: The story is centered around Mayorkun, a 17 year old girl who against her wishes was brought back to Nigeria after leaving with her aun for 2 years.

The first 3-5 chapters of the book introduces us to the main leads, Mayorkun and Evans, and their family dynamics. Slowly we see an unexpected twist that binds them together forcing family secrets out in the open. As if things couldn't get any worse in their home life, there is a gossiper at school putting everyone's dirty laundry on the internet.

Characters: There are a lot of characters in the book with the focus being on our main leads, Mayorkun and Evans. These characters consist of their family friends and classmates

Writing Style: The Writing style is quite simple. Each chapter has a 1st person POV either for the female or male lead.

Spelling and Vocabulary: There are a lot of Nigerian jargons and tone of speech used throughout the book.

EVALUATION

Overall Impression: This type of story is quite unique to be seen playing out in a Nigerian setting and I would love to see more of it. But it does need a bit bit of work.

Strengths & Weaknesses: The story has a good pacing and a valuable plot but there needs to be more depth to the characters.

Recommendation: Remove the first page intro since it is already in the description box.

One thing to be careful about when writing a story involving a lot of family and friends is not to overload the reader. Also keep track of dialogue and personalities, so that they don't get mixed up and cause confusion.

The book lacks details and emotions. Details in the sense like it is very straightforward and doesn't talk about the heavy effects well. (Mostly in the first 5-10 chapters of the book).

There is a need to utilize the 1st person point of view well. Don't tell emotions, show them. Whether through facial expressions or nuances, show the emotions of the characters.

Give the readers a mental picture of the characters you are writing. This was done in the later parts of the book, making the book look like it was written by 2 people.

At the end of each chapter, put a vocab list of the Nigerian jargons and their common meaning for international readers.
